Has anyone else noticed that Gen Z Instagram aesthetics look weirdly late-90s/early-2000s? Grainy digital camera pics, harsh flash, blurry selfies, old-school streetwear... It all feels strangely familiar. The Korean angle is interesting. K-pop and Korean fashion are seen as modern and trendy, but some of these aesthetics remind me of Japan in the late 80s and 90s: designer brands, consumer culture, and urban youth fashion. It's not just Asia, either. The US and Europe are bringing back Y2K fashion, indie sleaze, and early-2010s Tumblr aesthetics. Is this just a 20-year fashion cycle? Is the internet recycling the past? Or does everything genuinely feel less original now?

>>543523801Society peaked in 2000's. It'll take total boomer death before we can even think about some sort of cultural revival.
>>543523801>20 year fashion cycle Yeah, back in 2006 it was 80's parties that were all the rage. I still have some grainy, hard flash, digital photos from those days...
They look like poor people from the 90s; they all wear baggy black shirts and white sneakers. Plus most of them are fat and dumb. It is a really sad generation with zero cultural impact.
>>543523986Nahhhh, that was the CIA spreading feminism.
>>543524757The cia made korean men born without dicks and made you an inside out nigger rapper wannnabe.

>>543525535Why such an expert on gay? Christ man you're posting in a fashion thread. Fag.
>>543523801Its just emulation and easy to spot if you actually lived in the 90s.
>>543526782Early 00s too. I don't even think environment changed that much but people. 100% its social media, most people were just not online.

Manchild4Manchild instead of Band4Band.>>543524049We are in a post modern world where lack of innovation isn't criticised. Same shit applies to people in the 2000s and the 2010s who just played old rock genres like people do now. You can't reach most people with that shit. I've tried my hand at it but I was crap at it. Object Shows are legit the only true rebuttal in my mind. My only other point is that were Gen Z people who were OGs in YouTube Poop, Story time animation and SoundCloud Rap but none of us invented it. Same with how Boomers invented Grunge.
>>543524099son, boomers created the culture we grew up in and loved. With them gone who will reach for greatness? Gen X? They're not doing too well. Millenials? We lack the stuff. Gen Z? Certainly not, totally devoid of creative juices. Gen A? Come on.
>>543523801Yep they are going for the original mutt starter pack - 2003-2004 era single mother little boy outfits and haircuts. It's if you took the single mother and her mutt child and combined their styles into one person.
>>543528302Gen A are your children and they aren't even Adults. Grow the fuck up and give them time.
>>543528144>Indie Sleazerightit was landfill indie at the timebecause there was so much of it, you could fill a landfill
>>543529768That's what I was mentioning with 2000s and 2010s Rock stuff but I will back MGMT and some of the Australian groups that were active at that time. That late 2000s synth Indie sound does go hard. Also if you are from the UK I know you'd be averse to a Jeet Muslim rapping over this production but listen to Fakemink's Easter Pink. One of the best revival songs of that stuff.
