I've noticed something.
Notice that everywhere across the country where flock is being removed, the local governments are replacing it with contracts to motorola/axon to get new surveillance systems under a different brand.
Notice how all of the police departments and local governments have now successfully reframed the discussion as "data privacy and abuse" instead of "living in a surveillance state". They refuse to stop under any circumstance.
Notice how the government has successfully reframed the discussion to be "the real problem is that we need to require WARRANTS to read the database of your every movement that was already recorded".

If the government required every citizen to be fingerprinted at birth, it would be a gross violation of the 4th amendment. But suddenly they are arguing that if they require themselves (pinky swear) to get a warrant before accessing said fingerprint database, then the fingerprint database is expressly legal. The surveillance camera databases that have fingerprinted the history of every day of your life in your daily travel movements is this database, which they have already taken from you, and they argue that all they need to do is require a warrant to look into it.
When in fact the creation of this database was the illegal act to begin with. A warrant (or arrest) is the only moment the database can begin to be collected, where your fingerprint would be taken, not retroactively. And it would not extend to then taking a fingerprint of everyone in your vicinity.
The only compromise and common sense control that can or should be humored within the confines of the constitution and rule of law is a total and complete ban on all such cameras and surveillance. They must be profusely outlawed. A warrant does nothing to make them any less of a 4th amendment violation.

In most countries, either Axon or Chief nese vendors like HikVision or Jieshun dominate the ALPR or general "security camera" market.
Axon in general is the preferred supplier for most US police electronic equipment.
Flock is almost entirely an American thing, and Axon is their main competition.
Anti-Flock sentiment would greatly benefit Axon and other suppliers such as HikVision.
(HikVision is mostly banned though because it's just Huawei operating under a different brand name, and Huawei is banned because LOL)

Well of course, a panopticon would make law enforcement and suppression of political rivals very easy, so they will try to get it however they can. Maybe they're not thinking about the broader implications or maybe they're just unreasonably sure it won't get turned on them, either way it's a high-time-preference move to make their jobs easier and more powerful right now.

Lol. Chinese vendors.
Cops here love Jieshun and Shunjie.
HikVision banned (LOL)

That's absolutely true, but there is another cause at the same time. Lazy people who want to do less work in law enforcement or get promotions through quarterly box checking on what "progress" they've made. Police are the biggest supporters of this shit, and they are doing less and less actual police work as a result of it. Nobody knows how to do real detective work any more, they just expect to be entitled to surveillance footage of what happened so they can rubber stamp cases as solved.
