Microsoft accused them to sell pcs with illegal copies of windows. This was not true. In fact mironet was selling.pcs without any preinstalled software. Company pretty much stopped existing and alza was the main competitor was only company who was abke to fill the gap, thus they grew quickly and never needed money from ipo.Now 26 years later a judge agreed that microsoft accusation was made up and mironet did nothing wrong. But damage has been done.
Because Europe is not a country and there's no unified capital market like in the US that could fund a global behemoth in online sales.Every business here first appeared on a national market then at best expanded a bit in a few other countries. There's no European capital market worth trillions, so this kind of megacorps doesn't really exist here.
