I feel sad that this war is right on par with the first world war, where men are dying for no good reason. There is no reason why this war should be happening at all. But apparently this opinion is gay and retarded here.

For instance, despite this being a proxy war involving no NATO country, NATO doesnt survive a Russian victory in ukraine. Ukraine is a defacto NATO protectorate. If ukraine were to join NATO tomorrow, there is no greater amount of military support they would receive. If NATO cant keep Russians out of ukraine, then NATO cant keep Russia out of any other NATO country.

Ukraine did far better than expected in fighting back and stalling a Russian advance, but they cannot reclaim all lost lands through force. On the other side, Russia cannot muster enough power for a decisive breakthrough.This will continue as a prolonged attritional war until one side's economy/societal tolerance collapses. In the economic regard, I see Russia showing cracks first and even then the fighting will continue as a token effort so Putin can keep saying "We're progressing in the conflict."
