The major cultural shift happened in 2013. That was when the woke lefties completely took over culture. they existed before but like another poster said people kind of looked at them as fringe loonies and there were all kinds of jokes about them being the PC police etc. then in a matter of months they completely controlled all aspects of culture including every aspect of normal socialization and all of a sudden you would make a benign comment on Facebook and 10 people would unfriend you, or some bluehair would start crying and screaming and trying to get you pushed out of the friend group if you said it in person. it got significantly worse leading up to the 2016 election as the Democratic party bought Reddit and every news outlet, but the real shift seemed to happen late 2012 early 2013.
