Tomorrow I'll be casting my vote in Bosnia and Herzegovina General Elections. To insure the veracity of the electoral process you can only cast your vote in person, on the election day itself and only at a specific voting place tied to your place of residence. The voting register already tells you not only the building, but exact room inside of said building where - and only where - you cast your ballot.Once you get there you will present your biometric ID that contains your photo ID, signature and fingerprint data. Then you will give your fingerprint at the polling place to ensure you're the person from the ID, after which two copies of a receipt will be printed which you have to sign with your signature and leave one copy at the polling place.Once you're positively, unmistakably identified as the voter in question you get to cast your vote. Once you jot down the preferred candidate you scan the ballot and leave the physical copy of the ballot inside a sealed ballot box.Every political party is allowed to have observers at any polling place, and all the physical votes are counted at a single central location where, again, every political party has a right to have it's observers 24/7. The central tabulation location is under 24/7 video surveillance.During the counting process, physical votes need to match digital/scanned results perfectly or a recount is automatically triggered. Additionally number of ballots needs to match both the digital count as well as the number of aforementioned receipts to ensure no vote stuffing or removal took place.I feel these measures should provide a level of security that would make vote fraud all but impossible given the number of people involved, independent (and indeed adversarial) supervision and a mix of traditional and modern security measures. As such, I'd like to thank our partners in USAID who generously funded the implementation of all of these different ways to ensure the integrity of Bosnian elections.

High trust societies have functional post offices.
Election security is secondary to having election candidates that strive to serve the populace. When no candidate is interested in doing that, whether or not elections are rigged is irrelevant.
