Compare this to 80 years ago when it was much more.The modern equivalent might be to counterfeit something like stablecoins because they are actually having a deflationary effect for western countries, i.e. those are real dollars moving out of their countries to reduce the local supply but if you're somewhere like Argentina or Lebanon where currency is inflating much faster, you want to hold dollar or even euro because it's being devalued less.Also a lot of western countries are already in the later stages. They are counterfeiting new money digitally to pay for unpopular and wasteful things like this Iran/Ukraine war or gibs for brown people/boomers and it's already not sustainable.In fact, if you wanted to really wreck a country you would get it into a pointless proxy war to drain its resources for no real benefit.

Today's US banknotes are made from trees and cotton grown on specifically lot-seeded plots which are inoculated with various blends of mildly-radioactive but unique isotopes, so that each lot number or serial can be calibrated to a certain radioactive ash which proves its authenticity. In addition to that, micro-printing, hyper-spectral inks, and paper indenting and watermarking make forgery impossible, quite literally.Practically if some Taco Bell guy takes an inkjet printed $20 while high as fuck? Nobody will ever catch that until the bank counts the roll.
TLDR there is no way to counterfeit money convincingly any more except at the "high as fuck cashier" retail level.
