One thing you have to understand is that good parents decide to put their children above all `else so the "suffering" that comes with raising such a child is more a duty of love. Also, you have to account for the severity of the retardation or genetic issue as some cases are seemingly cruel since the child is in pain. However, in many cases the child has a expansive range of emotion and life experience. So at what point do you play god and decide who lives and dies? There are some clear cut cases of putting a child out of it's misery for the best. However, many parents will abort a child for having Down Syndrome...these children are high functioning, deeply emotional, and closer to god than most adults you'll encounter in life
