Many loose alliances, many unique countries, vastly different ideologies, and warfare on many fronts in vastly different places with vastly different technologies and doctrines. This anime, however, just has two retardedly simple countries fighting with precisely the same kind of technology, and their political systems are as deep as a puddle with one republic and one empire.
I think lotgh is the best show ever made but the battles are pretty weak. The shows purpose is to take individual historical events and attempt to explore them. The shows best episodes are the events leading up to reunthals revolt. I tell people to skip the first ten episodes of LOTGH or blast through them very fast.

i really don't think logh even really qualifies as science fiction. the story could have worked just as well in real life considering how basic and boring it is. the space setting was unnecessary.just having spaceships and laserguns doesn't make something science fiction because those spaceships can be regular ships and the laserguns can be regular guns.

Leaving ambiguity to Lohengramm rise to power and like you said making him look like an unstoppable force of nature would be so much better.
