Because of how sports recruit. If you excel as a teenager in high school, you get put in the pipeline to college and the pro leagues. Blacks hit puberty sooner and are more developed as teenagers than Whites, so blacks as a race have an edge over Whites during the critical time in an athlete's development. Whites only have an advantage long term, like think of all the 40-something pro athletes who still were great like Tom Brady, Brett Favre, etc. who are all White (beside a few baseball roiders like Barry Bonds). This is also part of why you have so many black athletes who do great for 2-3 years before being absolute busts (the other reason being that many are lazy bastards who get their millions and don't give a shit about the game anymore).
