I work for a govt contractor and leverage AI. There's only 2 on our team. Even if another company could replace the QA we do with AI, they need someone to manageit, a second person for redundancy... I don't think you're going to get a contractor to bid much lower. I could be wrong, and if I am I'll never work again.

He got a real job doing work that actually benefits society. Yes he's not remunerated as well as he could be and that's a bummer, but we don't need more tik tok posts of people in tech at the cafeteria and the gym doing fuck all and getting paid obscene $. I'm only sad every major corp doesn't empty their IT & marketing branches and make those people do real work like this too.
>>
>>543794186
Eventually the industry will realize how little human time it actually takes to manage the AI and make the main designer handle his own testing. The tools will also improve to make hierarchical AI easier to set up (it's already pretty good, just hard to get going)

Insane how 20 years ago tech was a booming market with much growth & potential. Fast forward to today, & now it is an unstable market. I got a BS in CS, & was in the industry for 5 years, then left because middle & upper management cared more about diversity quotas than making a quality product. When I went into the field, it was already getting saturated with roasties & normgroids. Then came the huge influx of jeets after Biden, further saturating the market. Now not only do qualified people have to compete against AI but also hundreds of poos & women who shouldn't be there.

Dude
they don't hire men for those roles.
That's why it "doesn't exist". Those are woman jobs. The 98% of jobs that go to women. Invoicing is accounts receivable type shit and purchase orders are accounts payable. They only hire women to these bookkeeper payroll purchaser AR/AP type roles.

>>
>>543794924
This was a question in good faith, if anyone knows and can speak to whether it's a good or bad practice, I'm genuinely curious. From my perspective commits can be very small or very large, and there's a very real possibility that the code never actually makes it to production, or it fails testing.
>>
>>543794493
They also created the resume culture. Which is nothing they had to go through and it's changing every few years too. I didn't know AI was skimming and deleting resumes without keywords for 18 months.
>>
>>543794924
Each commit for work is a Jira ticket, buildable and deployable. Each PR is generally an epic (for feature work). Extra commits if it doesn’t pass the review gate. The open source commits are more dynamic. Personal projects same workflow as my day job. My point is that no matter how much code I ship the only value I would have in an interview would be management and planning for pipeline, security, compliance especially, and architecture. No one cares about code and there’s a million people who can do the management level stuff when you’re job is just “implement this ticket XXX-12345” to Claude. I also have a backup career already set up that is AI proof if this goes belly up but it would be a sizeable pay cut and I’d actually have to work
>>
>>543794960
My company keeps ap separate from buyers. Pretty crazy. I have to get a quote, my manager has to tell a foid that we need to issue a PO for the quote. The foid sits on it for a week and then starts PO. This goes to foid 2 for approval before going to the director of my department before going to vice president and then president. And then to director of accounting before going to foid 3 to send the completed PO to my manager to then send to me to send to whoever I got quote from. And if at any point the PO goes beyond 30 calendar days it is dead. So I have to harass people at every step in the chain to approve the PO so I can keep the network running.
I suppose it is to prevent fraud but the fact I have to kvetch at people who spend half the day reading news articles unrelated to our industry is insane. Yes I do look at logs of what they do I am curious if they are working or if they are busy ignoring my PO.

Something I don't think anybody takes into consideration, in 1998 (or around that time) the US had 20,000 open computer science jobs. To drive the narrative that we need more programmers they rolled computer science and web engineering together. I've been in the IT field as a system admin for 15 years. Any idea how many lines of code I've written, probably 10k. And all of those were for side teams too stupid to slap a bash script together.
>>
>>543795240
Is this industry standard? My only involvement in producing code for projects has been very small open source stuff without a formal review process, so I don't have a frame of reference.

I have similar issues. I ended up driving a forklift at a trucking company. Everyone i work with is dumb as rocks, including management. Having half a brain and not showing up to work drunk basically makes me un-fireable. I can pretty much do what I want and no one really questions me. I come in late almost every day. I make almost 30/hr, it's not bad.
>>
>>543794960
i think the point is that no matter your experiencr you can probably get into some department and start the rapid climb. also not sure what your experience is, the company i work with has representation in every dept including ops.
it women are getting the job its because they can pay attention to detail and work with vendors and internal parties to figure shit out. guys that can figure out how to communicate can land those jobs too.
that said, why focus on if you can or cant get a role that accounts for maybe 5% of the headcount at an org as an argument?
>>
>>543795233
Our tickets are broken down into very small pieces so that each ticket corresponds to a single commit. And our epics are very tightly scoped as well. We have thrown out a lot of the original Agile concepts as theyre too slow or no longer really empower us. Our system isn’t really scalable or well defined yet since onboarding AI. But a lot of the devops principles regarding identifying bottlenecks etc still do apply. So yeah it’s nebulous and commit counts don’t matter. Sorry if my original post made it seem like I was bragging or something, my point was that I’m super fucking lazy and even I have that many (not just fluff) PRs, so writing code cannot be valuable anymore

It's not like you can just waltz up to someone with a strong handshake and get hired, and that's all school leaves you with outside of fucking Harvard where everyone has an "in". Very mystifying and the more a priori analysis I apply to this the more perplexing it becomes...somehow normies/NPCs accept this state of affairs as given when it makes no sense and massively wastes actual talent who lack the self-debasing attitude needed to grovel their way through hiring idiocy.
>>

You coudn't be more wrong. Not all code is equally complex or important. If I need to write a another REST API then all that code that deals with marshalling/unmarshalling payloads can easily be handled by AI. All I need to do is read the code for a sanity check and it's g2commit.

Anyone who says "no AI" in the current softeng field will get laughed out the door. The key is HOW do you use AI and WHEN it's correct to write code yourself instead of relying on JeetGPT 9000

Has one of the best business programs in the state. I went to FIU for a BS in Construction Management and make 100k now, one year after graduation.

It is important to note that there is a distinction between BA and BS, that being whether you can hack it through calc and physics or not.

He should’ve got to Calc 3 at Broward College and transferred his credits and then got a BS, dumbass.

Yes, I’m Miami local.

I have a BS in both Mathematics and Physics and I ended up working at fucking Walmart. At least universities are dying so we will no longer have to be jealous of the cushy existence of tenured academics, one of the few things a PhD is really good for coupled with tremendous luck and skill at babysitting intolerable undergrads. I had a shit, utter shit, professor who couldn't teach his way out of a paper bag but was good at his own tiny amount of research output so got tenure at a state school - he literally did nothing for his job, the teaching and class administration was so horrible students revolted and were cursing at him in class at one nadir, yet this clown made almost $100k in a poor rural area where that's bank.

Wonderful, you admit it's a fucking lottery ticket - that you have to go into debt to roll the dice for. Ironic that in computer science there exists no mechanical effective procedure, which when followed step by step terminates and yields the desired outcome of employment predictably and deterministically - what a trash algorithm. >>
>>543793215
Uni degrees are too accessible and the difference of expectations between universities is huge. Hell, in my experience even differences within the same university were way too big, the majority of people who made it past the first two years filter just picked worthless subjects to fill their credits to finish the degree in the easiest way possible.
I would say that out of the 400 students that started uni with me, only 10 ended up being actual skilled engineers (6 autists that went the full math path and 4 autists that went the full hardware path), everyone else was mediocre. And this was at the top computer science university in this country, it only gets worse from there. Now, probably more than 10 were reliable and employable, but in all honesty if I was doing technical interviews at my company you just having a degree wouldn't buy you much credibility, it would basically show that you can be committed for several years to accomplishing a moderate difficulty goal, which is more than can be said for dropouts.

Women get those roles because people want the workplace filled with women and they on average are worse employees than men at any real creative work.
But they can organize things for other people.
Those jobs are basicly 1950s secretary jobs modernized and compartmentalized with empowering modernized titles.
There is also an excess number of women from universities with credentials so a large number applying while only being good on average at such organization tasks or overseeing and organizing others organizing.
Whether physical labor or creative engineering most of what makes a company any money is still done by men. Everyone else is just organizing their workflow and trading what they generate and then taking a large portion of the generated wealth.
A man in those roles is still better, having actual knowledge in what is being organized, but women do it fine and what else would you have most of the women doing otherwise.

>Should have known that this was a dead end career
Back in summer of 2022 there still seemed quite a bit of hope in this career field. In fact tech companies were hiring more people than ever then.
>LOL just swap majors then
You can't because Finland has this retarded "first timer" reservation system. Certain percentage of the spots for degrees are reserved for "first timers". For some degrees this can be as high as 90% of the spots meaning everyone else will compete for 10% of the remaining spots. This makes it almost impossible to get into any decent degree program as a non "first timer". And you don't need to complete a degree to lose this status. All you need to do is ACCEPT enrollment into any degree and you lose it, even if you change your mind later and decide to never step a foot into campus.

The only way I have deduced I can swap my major is:
1 Learn Swedish so well I can talk it natively, so I can apply to Swedish Language Universities which have far lower requirements.
2 Save up 60-80K and study abroad in UK, Canada or USA.

EVERYTHING even down to your personal bullshit and struggle is a distraction from that one thing they fear, a united People.
