If you failed you were given a few months to get back into shape. And if you failed again you were fired. This went on until a woman failed twice and was fired. But then sued to get her job back and won. So they abandoned the system. The will is there to maintain physical standards. But Federal and the state courts have spoken and once you get hired and pass the initial physical tests required for the academy, you are free to become a fat piece of shit with a physical job for life.
