Let's say you worked for 40 years starting when you're 25 on 9/1/1986, so 65 retirement age and you started at the median salary in 1986, 18-point-something thousand a year. 100 a month for 6.5% annual contributions, rising with inflation as if you're staying in a job that pays cost of living increases and nothing more. You're telling me you wouldn't be better off with literally half the contributions than you would be under social security?
