Safe in their position, the two parties form what we've been calling the uniparty: two options, but ones that despite any policy disagreements understand that their mutual survival depends on not rocking the boat. So what it encouraged for years was political theater over political action. This was business as usual, but things took a hard turn in 2010 with Citizens United. From that point forward, our politicians stopped working for the american people, and now worked directly for whoever paid them enough money, both out of greed and as a sort of survivorship bias because anyone who DIDN'T accept the millions of dollars in legal bribes got out-competed by those that did.
