>>543849578we have to play it in school, it's a national sport. cricket grounds are all over the country that people are always playing on for fun. there is a class aspect where it's more a middle class thing because it's cumbersome (lots of kit required, matches last hours, private schools teach it more than state schools etc.). in Australia it's like their soccer since they don't care about soccer so everywhere.I don't think it will catch on in Canada but their government should encourage it our of principle and their taxes should pay for it.

>>543848766The reality is the American monopoly called the NHL valued the extra shekels more than the tradition of Hockey Night in Canada. What was CBC supposed to replace it with? Women's hockey? Junior hockey? Arguably the latter. Dunno, but even that doesn't work optimally anymore because American colleges are now allowed to recruit from Canadian major juniors and pay the players so most of the best players aged 18+ leave the Canadian juniors for US college hockey. So it makes sense CBC went with another sport.
