An interesting change is the use of a new module referred to by Ukrainian intelligence as MOKH. Its key element was the PNI5GA magnetometer manufactured by the American company PNI Sensor. However, its problem is the accumulation of errors over the flight’s duration. Even small measurement deviations can, after some time, translate into a significant difference between the UAV’s actual position and the position calculated by its onboard computer. A magnetometer can help mitigate this problem by providing additional information about the machine’s orientation relative to the Earth’s magnetic field.

The Russians have gone even further, as the new configuration also features the 'Susanin' system. This is an entirely different type of navigation: instead of measuring the machine’s movement or using the magnetic field, the system utilises images from an optical camera. The computer compares the currently viewed terrain with a previously saved reference image and, on this basis, can determine whether the UAV is on the correct route. The system can correct navigation based on what it actually sees, rather than relying solely on GPS or inertial system data. According to Ukrainian military intelligence, a similar system has also been applied in the new Geran-5 in the K5 version.

Alongside the other changes, the Russians have also replaced the Geran-4’s power source. The Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) reported that the previously used Chinese Telefly turbojet engine has been replaced by a Russian equivalent, the production of which has been localised in Alabuga. Ukrainian intelligence has not yet provided the designation of the new unit, its manufacturer, or exact parameters. It is known, however, that it is the same type of engine – a small turbojet unit.

The Russians have figured out drone swarm economics. There needs to be a counter. Fast.

these are also significantly more expensive and time-consuming to build than the flying mopeds that could be launched in the 100s every single day
>>
>>543859634
so why dont Ukrainins bomb this Alabuga plant?
they know where it is and its not even fortified.
maybe send like 5000 drones at once and try to flatten it instead of wasting drones on moscow
>>
>>543859725
I am wondering about this myself as that is the #1 russian weapons facility
maybe there are plans we don't know of yet
>>
>>543859725
>>543859773
Yeah, there plans to test our new bunkerbuster missile, soon we will have a target.
>>
>>543859723
no, the old ones are useless now because of automated turrets and tens of thousands of interceptor drones which have very high interception rates. why else do you think russia switched to using mini jet engines. you are seeing WWII-tier levels of technological development. things are changing very rapidly. russia is doing the same with missiles, largely replacing expensive large cruise missiles with the new S8000 banderol which is much smaller but extremely cheap while maintaining great accuracy and a sizeable warhead. just like in WWII the parties involved are ditching the boutique weapons in favor of simpler designs that are just effective enough but most importantly much cheaper to make.
>>
>>543859634
So they built a low-speed tomahawk?
>>
>>543859723
They are practically the same thing with the exception of a different engine. Turbine engines are, in theory, simpler and cheaper to build than a "moped" piston engine. Because it's fundamentally a much simpler design.

Don't confuse the shit they install on this with commercial aircraft engines which are over engineered and built to last.
>>
>>543859723
they also got intercepted at a rate of like 99%, these new drones are like 40-60% and it costs far more to intercept them
i even saw videos of ukies wasting air to air jet missiles on them lmfao

wow that means absolutely nothing, Tyrone.

its not about the speed, its about economics of scale

the kind of navigation you describe is many decades old stop trying to make it sound like some russian innovation
>>
>>543859977
pretty much
it's in the middle point between the cheap swarm drones and a cruise missile

no.
the tomahawk has a 450kg warhead.
the gerbil has a 50kg warhead.

the tomahawk actually works.
the gerbil is merely a flying wagon.

>>543860006
the problem with these ones is that they fly really high, higher than the interceptor drones
but I think that in a few months UA will catch up
however on the frontline russians are still relying on spamming KABs/FABs, especially with the new UA anti-drone system that is rendering FPVs far less effective (which russia will without a doubt copy)

Having to move your weapons production underground is a very clear marker that you are winning. I can tell you first hand.
>>
>>543860494
yeah, weapons that actually work cost more.
go figure.

Jets are surprisingly cheap while light gas engines aren't
>>
>>543859634
imagine millions of these circling the globe, nuclear powered. looking for a warm target autonomously, any target that dares to go to the surface. that's the future.

>Having to move your weapons production underground is a very clear marker that you are winning. I can tell you first hand.
Germany had V1 and V2 rockets that were hitting Britain. I'm sure if your accuracy was better, it would have forced Britain to move things underground. But that doesn't mean you were winning, retard.
>>
>>543860790
No need, several companies are already working on drones delivered by rocket boosters. The targeting can be done by low earth orbit satellite constellations.
>>
>>543860790
this is that alleged stupid vatnik cruise missile with no purpose.
>>
>>543860829
Exactly. That's why I phrased it like that to make it obvious that it does in fact not mean you are winning.

The interception rate for the latest Geran has fallen to 60%, if you launch 10-20 at once its basically a guaranteed hit on any target which is much cheaper than a tomahawk and also Russia produces 3000 of these per month. Block V tomahawk costs 3,6 million and US makes 60 of them a year, you probably get the point. Tomahawk is overpriced and engineered garbage, its a piece of technology designed to make money not a real weapon of war
>>
>>543859723
Very small turbojet engines are particularly more demanding to manufacture than car turbochargers. They don't need any of that single crystal magic that big jet engines use, machinging them out of a standard nickel superalloy is sufficient. Any country can make these, if they want to.

It's definitely more than $10k, but it's much less than whatever "The West" claims. Western analysts say the turbojet engine alone is $40k. It's a 160kg thrust turbojet from China designed to be a throwaway. And now Russia is making it themselves.

>>543861022
Yes. You were being sarcastic. And I recognized that fact. You were obviously alluding to allied bombing of Germany in WWII. I was saying that Germany was bombing Britain with missiles. Which, if they had been more accurate, would have forced Britain to build underground.

Basically, who is Germany and who is Britain in this scenario? You seem to be implying that Russia is Germany. I'm saying it is Ukraine who is Germany. The fact that it hits things periodically with drones when it has almost zero air defense and it is hit 100x more. It doesn't even have heavy manufacturing. It just has small drone assembly plants in the basement of commercial buildings in civilian areas. Ukraine's actual military industry is all in other countries.

>>543861026
or maybe you go after the sam system.
but vatniks can't SEAD.

>>543859898
You are retarded. Regular piston drones still do 90% of the work for both sides, and interception rate if you don't use missiles is like 20% at best. Here you can see whole flock of them pounding a hohol facility, and Russia is not doing any better.
