I am normally not a fan of democracy, but the EU is clearly a talmudic oligarchy. Like central banks, also talmudic oligarchies, it is designed to confuse. The EU commission is the executive branch, but it also drafts the legislation. It is nominated by the EU council, the 27 heads of state of the member states. The parliament is elected by actual citizens, but all they are allowed to do is pass or reject bills written by the commission. The European Central Bank created housing bubbles first in southern europe (PIIGS) and then in northern europe, which is very similar to what the Fed has been doing to America, since creating and popping bubbles is all central banks are good for. ECB members are appointed by the heads of state of EU members and so far have been the usual world bank/IMF people. The ECB and euro are probably the most pernicious aspect of the EU as the countries have now given up the right to control their own currency to an unelected body of bankers. Over the past 30 years of its existence the euro has lost almost 50% of its value.
