Why won't the US government just implement price controls to control the rate of inflation on things like healthcare, housing, and college?Europe does this on healthcare and it works. It is a huge reason why healthcare costs in Europe are so cheap compared to the US for the same services. It's the core reason why they can have universal healthcare.
Inflation is caused by an increase in the money supply. It's right there in the name: "Inflation"Just what did you think was being inflated? Stop the money printer; that's how you stop inflation.
>>543923872Inflation is caused when demand outpaces supply.
>>543924263Maybe if that applied to every single good and service in the economy at once that could make sense but no that is incorrect. It's not hard to see why some people would want to push the idea that economic hardships have nothing to do with governments or central banks but many can see through that.
>>543924726You have a working example of price controls in the EU, and they print money just like America.
>>543923516>Why won't the US government just implement price controls to control the rate of inflation on things like healthcare, housing, and college?because controlling things makes them expensiveonly a liberal who thinks spewing polysyllabic buzzwords they don't understand, like "commoditization," could be so stupid as to refuse to understand this
>>543923872Too many people have too much money. You have people working jobs sometimes multiple jobs at the same time plus side hustles allowing them even more income. The government needs to practice real imminent domain and start seizing assets from all of these spoiled fucking brats.
>>543925743You can make infinite TVs and tech garbage. You cannot make more land. That's why it must be regulated.
>>543923516you need to be 18 to post here, sport
>>543923872>Inflation is caused by an increase in the money supply. This is simplistic and its wrong, but rightoids need to keep working off of this incorrect assumption because it's how they sabotage and oppress workers.Inflation is too much money chasing too few goods. You can absolutely increase the money supply -- by many orders of magnitude -- and it won't matter at all if production keeps up. This is why China has deflation despite creating massive quantities of money over and over.
>>543925743in what order am i supposed to read this shit?
>>543925743TVs are cheap now because the TV isn’t the product, the person buying the TV is the product the TV manufacturer sells to others. People are paying TV manufacturers to bug their homes.
>>543924263No, inflation is from too much money chasing a static or decreasing quantity of goods. Worse still is inflation paired with debt, which increases the real price of goods still further.
>>543926136Let's have a theoretical example here. This is also going to be simplistic, but it serves an illustrative point.Let's say the federal government launched the single largest domestic program in American history and said it was going to build houses for everyone in America who needs (not wants) one. Homeless, people stuck with relatives, renters who don't want to rent anymore, whatever. This would obviously require a massive increase in the money supply. It would draw in workers from other fields, it would heavily concentrate workers already working in the field, etc. It would clearly put inflationary pressure on raw materials and related labor. But what would it ultimately do to the asset price, the price of a home? It would crater it along with all the related sources of income and drag that come with it. Yes, carpenters and contractors would see inflated wages, but landlords would see their income dry up.I'm only using this as an example. I'm not saying we should do this policy. I'm just using it to explain that driving up demand in one area might be temporary, but if it produces a longer term demand destruction it's not necessarily inflationary.
>>543923516cuz most Americans are dumb and think price controls = le bad so they just allow companies to jack prices up forever
>>543926513noone with the wherewithal to operate a web browser can make a statement this retarded
>>5439266623rd worlders and liberals do it all the time
>>543923516would the business jews, and banker jews like that? the bureaucratic jews need the ok from them
Old fart.Very old fart.Lived through price controls in 1970s USADid.Not.Work.This is why teaching history is needed.
>>543926662ok. enjoy paying more and more for things i guess. you can afford it, right? just put it on the cc. or do it in flex(tm) payments. good little consumer goy.
>>543923516>Why won't the US government just implement price controls to control the rate of inflation on things like healthcare, housing, and college?Because if producing a product isn't profitable then its not produced and the economy shuts down. The government needs to keep printing money to pay off its debts which is what's driving inflation. If they lock the prices then selling products at the same price they were before with the new devalued currency is no longer profitable for the company and they simply stop producing and shut down their business. Then the economy crashes.
>>543926934this is why they stopped teaching history, ignorant people trained to believe everything in the past is just one endlessly rewritten Netflix series are easy to control
>>543926136>Inflation is too much money chasing too few goods. You can absolutely increase the money supply -- by many orders of magnitude -- and it won't matter at all if production keeps up.You are absolutely a fucking moron. Increasing the money supply devalues the currency. It’s Econ 101 you dumb fuck.
>>543927003Read an economics book you fucking retard.
>>543927154>It’s Econ 101 you dumb fuck.Econ 101 is where you learn the rulesEcon 201 is where you learn the exceptionsEcon 301 is where you learn why wanting something to be an exception doesn't make it one
>>543927003its like he cant comprehend how stupid he is
>>543927274if liberals could learn, even from the deaths of other liberals, they'd stop being liberals
>>543927118too bad Capitalism itself isn't working. if price controls don't work and Crapitalism doesn't work, what are you all gonna do? still maintain it's better than le bad socialism?
Corporates don't want commercial competition so they seek rent. And they spend the suprr profits to lobby for regulation, then just break the law at the point nobody can get rid of them.
>>543927379no no no by all means keep this pathetic system alive. go out and buy more crap! go on a vacation!
>>543927426define "working"it's not supposed to work for illegal immigrants, homeless fent addicts, and rich trust fund babies so impossibly entitled that they think they should be allowed to destroy the whole civilization and replace it with their personal "benevolent" collectivist dictatorship
>>543927677we will, with or without your permissionunlike every form of socialism, capitalism can survive the existence of other economic systems, even when being directly attacked by them
>>543923516There is a price to that.Healthcare ends up being undervalued relative to what you would pay to stay alive / get treatment. The real cost of this is less development money potentially.Healthcare is also a bit toxic inherently (not buying may mean death). They may only be one patented solution to a problem. It is very hard to judge ultimately.> A rare cure is only worth developing if you can charge retarded amounts of money for it> Many failed endeavours are natural, so you need to make a lot of money on successes to pay for thoseYou would really need some type of a survey to figure out what would still be worth developing under EU systems. There are also other issues with the american system. As far as I know a doctor can be payed to perscribe you something by a company. You than pay for it.But you don't norice the cost directly, since it is insurance who may pay for it.The american system seems wild (if I am not misinformed). This doesn't mean that there arem't advantages to it.
>>543928041
>>543923516The European systems only “work” because the prices aren’t controlled in the largest consumer market in the world (the US). Europeans get the benefit of lifesaving drugs developed in the US with profits earned from sales of drugs in the US (over 80% of annual medical R&D spend comes directly from pharmaceutical companies themselves). If the US passed most favored nation pricing laws it would either cripple or drastically reduce the quality of all socialized system in Europe.
>>543924263Attaboy anon.
>>543923872It is time to learn microeconomics.
>>543923516THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH
>>543923516>Why won't the US government just implement price controls toNothing in the Constitution allowing it, except perhaps as a temporary wartime measure.
>>543925743Well not price controls, but regulations are needed. Colleges form cartels (university systems) and fix prices. Since theyre seen not as businesses but institutions, the government does not trust bust them.
>>543927028The government creates money to add net financial assets to the private sector. The government is the ORIGIN of money. It has to spend it before you HAVE IT.
>>543928233inflation is caused by a shitty central bank and Capitalism, anon
>>543928344The Fed's unconstitutional too yet look where we are
>>543927154You were just given a real world example from China. Look at Japan -- they ran way higher budget deficits than the US, with ZERO INTEREST RATES, and could not inflate their currency for shit. You have no idea what you're talking about. The supply of money is elastic as is the supply of real goods and services. They are mutually exclusive.
>>543928477nah
>>543923516Then they couldn't just pass the entire burden onto residential home buyers.
>>543928041>The american system seems wild It is bloated as fuck, with an unnecessary number of hands in the cookie jar adding unwarranted cost. Add to that insurance being a job benefit for most jobs a rung above entry level/part time for those of working age, insurance being government ran for elderly and poorer single moms and all of the kids they pop out, as well as a legal obligation for hospitals to provide a certain level of treatment to whoever shows up to the emergency room regardless of their ability to pay and you have a welfare system, a capitalist system, and price fixing at zero dollars that providers have to eat. Insurance companies and employers are working together more now as well to blur the line between insurer and healthcare provider, trying to get the insured to use employer or insurance company assets (like cancer screening, tele-health, digital health monitoring devices) in lieu of healthcare providers, which many blindly fall in line for oblivious to repercussions having your insurer become your medical provider.
>>543928358>Colleges form cartels (university systems) and fix prices.Anon, the government is the cause of that problem, not the solution. You and I could start a college right now on pure debt and charge so much to cover all of it and STILL be charging far less than these guys. We could outcompete all of them even with no starting funds. We can't, though, because the government won't let us. They approve what is and isn't a college because apparently they invented thought and skills.
>>543924263Inflation is caused by loans. Corporations should be forced to use different currency than lower class Americans. Foreigners should use the same inflated currency as any lobbying companies are forced to.
>>543923516>It's the core reason why they can have universal healthcare.NOPE THE CORE REASON IS EUROPE HAS NO MILITARY AND DEPENDS ON USA
>>543925520EU has no military and is basically broke, their nations all have smaller economies than Mississippi.
>>543925958Not true. The consumers are fully fleeced and cannot sustain companies projections. The wealthy lobbying companies need to lobby to increase pay or they'll lose their golden laying goose, and people will double down on blaming ALL jews.
>>543928358>Well not price controls, but regulations are neededsure, but every regulation has a price, as every law must be enforced with the death penaltyso think carefully before you make it illegal to sell loose cigarettes or whatever, because every regulation you make will have at least one person so stupid and/or criminally insane they will willingly throw their lives away just to break your law
>>543928596It can't work any other way.https://youtu.be/E5JTn7GS4oA?t=28
