New allegations and documents have surfaced in media reports suggesting there were major discrepancies in 2024 between information provided to local prosecutors and CUPD’s hours-long interview with Jane Doe. CBS News obtained Jane Doe’s original interview transcripts with Cornell police, in which she said “with “100 percent confidence that I was raped.”Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said that the sworn statement prepared by CUPD and signed by Jane Doe in 2024 described her experience at the former Chi Phi fraternity as “voluntary, conscious, and consensual.” He cited the discrepancies as he faced mounting criticism to explain his initial decision not to pursue criminal charges in 2024.On Sept. 28, Van Houten announced he would reopen the investigation into Jane Doe’s allegations. The case has since moved beyond the Tompkins County District Attorney office: New York Attorney General Letitia James will take over the criminal investigation as a special prosecutor, according to an Oct. 1 announcement by Gov.
