What are some good books about the 1948 Palestine War?

It seems to me everything about the current conflict dates back to this event but I have only a vague understanding of why and how it occurred.

It dates all the way back to WW1 and the Mandate of Palestine

Books covering that too would be welcome. But the conflict currently appears to stem from the Nakba primarily, which occurred during this 1948 war.
