When I was in college I was in maui for a month living in a tent because my gf at the time somehow got us into a position teaching a bunch of mormon boyscouts from Idaho there. It is actually a thing people do, buy a one way ticket there with no intention of ever coming back. It is a tiny place though and you will see the same people all the time, and it's so cut off from the rest of the world that it's like its own planet. But it is stunningly gorgeous, and the weather is always beautiful, and fruit just grows there so you will never starve.
