The only times m2 are useful is if you are doing very large data movement or access. Such as 4k video editing or copying terabytes of data at a time. And if you are dealing with mass terabytes chances are you are on high grade server sata ssd.I bought 2 crucial gen 3 nvme 4tb m2 drives and I really can't tell the difference. Boot time went from 8 to maybe 7 seconds. Total war wh3 turns are maybe a few seconds faster early game. Any copying I do is to my sata drives or USB 3.1 to external ssd for backing up data to a few encrypted drives by robocopy batch files. But 3.1 usb is the limiting factor in that case.If you are a normie or just play vidya as a hobby it is a waste. I just sniped these when they were $120 on a cyber monday sale a few years ago at the cheapest price before ai made it all go up. Still 99.4% health so hopefully they last until the ai crash. I do have torrent seeds on them which likely is what caused all the degradation so far, should move my seed to some of my old 1tb sata ssd.

If you want cheap HDDs go to a goodwill or a thrift store, the ones where people drop off their used shit. Go to the electronics section and look for old DVRs and cable boxes. Verify the model and how much storage it has, buy it as cheaply as you can and when you get home, crack it open and inside should be a normal, totally usable 250GB or more HDD that just needs a quick format to be operational.
