Build a 6 to 9 month emergency fund kept in money market account so it kind of keeps up with inflation. Have zero debt. Then max company 401k match. Mine matches half a percent for every percent you put in up to 4%. So at 8% I get full match. Then I max roth ira contributions for year. Then I increase 401k contribution. This year I did 7500 roth ira contribution January 1st and have had my 401k contribution set to 50% paycheck. I maxed that earlier this year but it is a traditional 401k so if I max it then I pay less in federal payroll taxes. Ive had to edit the % over the year as I also purchased a new vehicle and had 22k debt to pay off over 6 months to see if it would build my credit score. Ended up moving some from money market to pay it off. Went from 780 to 785 so not worth it.Anyways my 401k is maxed sometimes this month. I sold some old stuff to make 10k cash I've used on gas and groceries since the spring so my expenses have been 0 besides utilities and rent. And I do this on a 72k salary plus bonuses and expenses reimbursement.I've looked into early retirement but I do not think I make enough to pull it off. I do however have zero need to stay a slave at my company as I have years of spending saved in money market since I went beyond a months saving. I could quit today and not have to get a loan or touch retirement accounts for years. And I much more prefer the zero stress that comes with this over the mentality of paycheck to paycheck.
