Which makes sense when you think about it. They had just rejected western rule and weren't enthusiastic about joining a global American lead empire. But also weren't ensnared under communist control...yet. So a whole third block of nations (sperate from the 1st and 2nd world). The fact that the cold war is over (arguably the ideological fight is over, since every nation has embraced capitalism) but there is still a dueling block of alliances between former cold war sides, means the use of third world stays relevant. You could argue that the 1st and 2nd world are competing for control over 3rd world countries (specifically the ones they can use as a proxy sweatshops and harvest resources from). The notion of a 0th world country doesn't make sense. Especially in the context of state mandated girlfriends...It's just nonsense.
