The current state of the GOP isn't strange at all. It is the logical consequence of Christians who mistake the worldly for the divine. St. Augustine explains this in City of God. Christians don't need to lust after the worldly city of Rome. Rome is corrupt, and the current GOP in Washington is a perfect stand in for ancient Rome around the time of its sacking.That's why I think Christian nationalism is laughable, at least without the philosophy of St. Augustine.
