We need a name for this phenomenon. Images like pic related were used to sell Hitler's leadership to the German public (which has always been a function of fine art), but would also have been understood by the public as imaginative works of symbolic content.Modern AI is produced with little to no technical effort, and are so close to photographic quality that they require considerable cognitive effort to recognize and sort as AI. Even if it only takes you a moment to recognize it as such, it still involves a good deal of processing in your visual cortex the first time and some additional effort every other time you see the image. Of course you could have achieved the same effect a few years earlier with photoshop or by making staged photographs, but it's notable that we did not see a flood of positive shoops oduring the Obama nd Biden presidencies, eg Obama as a doctor or Biden presented as a saint on stained glass window or whatever. I'm sure there were a few and you could point to positive editorial cartoons or staged photos of Obama having fun with the family dog or whatever as part of the image-making propaganda. But the level of fake promotional images of Trump is a lot higher, and I don't think this is healthy.
