Very few countries even have one and nato basically has one German one, and one the rest of Western Europe has to share. Most countries figure a major air campaign would destroy them either way so don't even bother investing in SAM. Point defence, flak, yes. Fighters, yes, both are typically dual role. SAM is really for shooting down stealth aircraft, interceptors, apex predators of the air. Aircraft which themselves carry strike missiles and beyond line of sight air to air missiles, if not hypersonic scram missiles. Point defence can't really protect itself from a strike missile. Strike missiles cost so much that it's really not worth hitting point defence with one so that's not result an issue, you just get two. There are peak point defence like the phalanx, there's a Russian equivalent for carrier defence. Point is, Russia HAS SAM, most of Europe actually doesn't.And much like the HIMARS the s400 system can strike ground, naval and other missiles just as easily as it can strike enemy fighters. So it's a theatre level asset.The American equivalent is far better, the s400 isn't the best SAM system out there, but it's good, and most counties don't even have one.
