It’s not real

My bedroom. Checkmate, theists.

>where do you go when you fall asleep?
Your brain goes into standby mode when you sleep just like your PC.

It's scary knowing you cannot remember stuff happening around you when you sleep.

Unimportant questions.
>>
Also conscoiusness is just the collective processings from your sensory inputs.
Seeing
Tasting
Feeling
Hearing
In combination to your collective memory.

the irony is that even medieval Christian theologists weren't as opposed to empirical research as modern rednecks and tele scammers, Francis Bacon was a devout Christian

So when you sleep your sensors shut up and you die, then rebirth when you wake up?

Or you keep sensing things and even having concious thoughts but conciousness ain't sensation
>>
>Most early modern pioneers—including Nicolaus Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, René Descartes, and Isaac Newton—were deeply devout men. They operated under the Christian premise that because God is a rational lawgiver, nature must be governed by intelligible, predictable, and discoverable laws.

religion doesn't answer these questions either lol

you have guesses by bronze age prophets taken at face value at best

Of course we can easily answer these questions, you just won't like our answers because you of course expect some breathtaking divine revelation:
Consciousness is the illusion of being separated from the rest of the universe.
We go nowhere when we fall asleep, we remain in our beds. The said illusion just has a longer break.
Even when being awake this illusion has many holes, many gaps, many interruptions. As if people were continuously conscious! Isn't it a rather rare exception?

Most European scientists were Christians. Understanding gods creation was a whole thing back then.
Fucking Darwin was a christian (before some awful shit happened and he went agnostic"

as with most things modern perceptions about history (church being opposed to science in this case) are a result of a later propaganda campaign

Science also can't answer those questions.

the premature death of his daughter wasn’t random. He was an inbred degenerate and he married his first cousin. She was culled by natural selection due to her week genes. God acts this way and the rage of degenerate Darwin against him doesn’t change the fact that he was right about natural selection
>>
>>544086970
There is no conclusive evidence or official record that Charles Darwin was a Freemason

You die and get reborn in every moment. There is a temporal limit to the processing speed of our brain and this ultimately defines this moment. It's even necessary that you die so that your brain can create a new version of you depending on the input of the senses and the needs of the body (instinct). Many forget that we are not just minds but first and foremost bodies. Consciousness is just another means of our body to serve it's needs in a complex societal existence. Consciousness is not the purpose of our existence as so many philosophers naively wished. It's so much less heavenly and so much more fleshly than they desired.

>he married his first cousin
Through his groundbreaking scientific experiments with plants, Darwin spent years proving that crossbreeding produces robust offspring, while inbreeding (or self-fertilization) leads to weaker, diseased generations.

Realizing the parallel to his own life, Darwin deeply fretted that his marriage to his first cousin had passed genetic weaknesses down to his children.

There is natural animosity between the scientific worldview and the religious one, but it's not necessarily a historical animosity, nor has it been straightforward all the time. The medieval church didn't oppose round Earth, for instance, but it did oppose heliocentrism. The Earth being round doesn't threaten anything, but heliocentrism was the beginning of the undercurrent of animosity that culminates today in evolution denial and flat Earth.

The problem with heliocentrism was quite simple. If the sun is the center of the universe (which we now know not to be true but bear with me), that meant the Earth is not the center of the universe, which in turn mean that humans are not at the center of the universe. And that is a problem, since it somewhat implies, in a small way, that humans aren't the center of the universe, that we're not the main characters of reality.

Humans being the most important thing going on is the subtext of many religions and particularly Abrahamic ones; the Genesis story that ends with God making humans and then resting strongly implies that the point of the rest of the work was to get to where a human could exist, and then, job done, God rests. This aspect of religion goes largely unnoticed but is its most critical function, it makes humans important which makes all its other comforts more convincing. And it's the one that scientific progress has most cruelly torn down.

At the beginning people thought science was just going to reveal God's marvelous design to them, but it's gone relentlessly and cruelly the whole other way. Heliocentrism and then the full galactic star map, heredity to evolution, alchemy to chemistry, humors to surgery, all the way to modern horrors like neuroscience that are showing us the ticking of our own thoughts; the more we've come to understand, the more we've come to see ourselves as just one thing that's popped up in the cosmos, part of a continuous stream of lifeforms that precede and will follow us, of no particular prominence, with a nature that is inexorably tied to the material and the laws of physics, with no apparent ability to transcend it. We are just starstuff that has become aware, and there appears to be nothing particularly special or precious about that. If it is special or precious, it's special or precious only to us.

Religion is the opiate of the masses, and that opiate is narcissism.
>>
>>544088398
church didnt even ban human dissections, it was also a propaganda myth from the 19th century

regarding being special we, meaning life on the earth, are pretty special as it is, there is nothing else similar out there.
and having intelligence (you could call it soul, whatever) in humans in particular.
>>
>>544088740
like i can see some path for religion yet (not that it needed at this point) while we dont understand what consciousness is and why humans have it and dolphins or elephants dont. Im sure someone was already abusing this ignorance today, in US in particular with your televangelism and stuff
>>
>>544084400
Consciousness is something beyond any possible understanding. Even if a sky wizard could be shown to exist it would do nothing to explain consciousness. Introducing the concept of a soul does nothing to explain consciousness, all it does is move the problem somewhere else.

As for sleep. I don't feel there is any great mystery. Sleep is periods of hallucination inter-spaced with time travel.
