>>544129843What websites do YOU frequent then?Nowadays most discourse congregates in a handful of websites. Why use some janky old forum from 2004 for you niche hobby/interest where you get one post every two weeks at best when you can go to YouTube with endless active channels with comment section, Reddit with hyperspecific niches or 4chan where you can call someone a niggerfaggot because he has an inconsequential slightly differing opinion. Yes, it's gay and lame but is the natural way of things.
>>544130311Here is the real version
i only use reddit, 4chan and sometimes youtube
>>544130311Ironic to say slopcoder when you used slop to make this
>>544129843Yeah that pic aged VERY poorly.
>>544129843It was called "Web 2.0" and was a term popularized around 2004 or 2005. Prior to then, websites were more like newspapers. People would host a website, but it was pretty much just static content. You'd check the website periodically to see new updates and read new information. Web 2.0 was when comment sections were added and the web itself became more interactive. Sure, before this there were forum websites and newsgroups, but those were basically the only interactive type of sites on the web. With web 2.0, interactivity became more common. Once it was really easy to users to upload content onto websites for free, that's when it began to consolidate. Before Facebook and myspace existed, if you wanted to post your photos online you either used a site like Photobucket, OR you had to pay to host your own website. That's why there were so many different websites back then. If you wanted to write a book's worth of schizo ramblings, you needed to pay for your own website. By the mid-2000s that wasn't necessary, and you could write your ramblings on social media like myspace. And that's why things are the way they are now. There's a handful of big websites, but they really do serve the functions that dozens and hundreds of smaller sites served in the 90s and 2000s

come now children, the reason why there are only three websites is that whenever some new blood tries to enter into the contest their website gets spammed with cp and shut down. either that or botted until its forced behind DDoS protection "services" which give the people in power a lever to exert control. you can't win the game if you aren't allowed to compete.
