Why do people claim poor white trailer trash are MAGA supporters when my experience is most of them are actually spiritually leftist (though they mostly don't vote at all)? I think people confuse rural or southern whites with poor whites when the rural whites that actually support MAGA are the relatively economically comfortable, petite bourgeois types

Rural or southern is not the same as poor, the MAGA base in states like South Carolina and Georgia is mostly well off exurbanites or rural petite bourgeoisie. A lot of northern blue states have at least as high white poverty as the south nowadays, a lot of the south has become affluent. This myth essentially comes from outdated stereotypes.
