heard of this meme? it's some concept that ai is going to crack encryption used everywheremany governments or even bad actors are hording encrypted data waiting for this day to happen to see what's behind every bank account, military communication, email, anything and everything instantly becomes vulnerablerecently the amount of computing power required for this crack has dropped drasticallyand recently ai solving those math problems has caused people to assume that date is even fasteroriginally assumed it would be a far distant date that doesn't matter, it has dropped down to as soon as 2029, and with rapidly advancing ai some assume it can happen within monthsmonthsbtc uses this ECDSA encryption and a dormant satoshi (really old) wallet was recently reactivated and drained and some people assume that it was a test from a government agency that may have cracked the encryption alreadyit's not if but whenthe U.S. national instiatute of standards has said we all need to end ECDSA use by 2030 but that may be too latethe point of this is that recently openai and anthropic have said they expect some catastrophic ai caused event to happen within the next yearso is this what they're planning?this would destroy every world government instantlyno stocks are safe, no bank account is safe, any social media account, corporate trade secrets, military comms, blockchain data, all of it is instantly compromised
>>544171490and to be clear you don't need quantum computers for this anymorethey expect ai to do it very soon in the near futureor 'superintelligence' whatever
I did some light research on quantum computing recently and concluded that the security implications, while not unimportant, aren't nearly so calamitous as clickbaiters would have you believe. IDK how AI factors into it. That term's extremely loosely defined so nobody could say for sure.
>>544171490I question even modern encryption because it's been found that Jeets used text files for Microsoft passwords and shit
>>544171490AI and quantum computing are fundamentally different, although yes quantum has the potential to bust encryption. But it won’t mean encryption stops working and all encrypted files are magically unlocked, you will still need a quantum computer which is the size of an industrial freezer and costs more than a house. We have quantum computers now but they are not sufficiently powerful yet, you don’t get to play in this game unless you have hundreds of millions of $
>>544171490"Quantum" is a scientific term meaning "bullshit"
>>544171775this can be done without quantum computing using ai nowthe end result is the same
>>544171982the amount of power required to break it was vastly overestimated and only recently have they dropped it down to an extremely realistic and nearing rangeso while it was seen as some far off date it's potentially mere months away now
>>544172204IDK what exactly you're referring to but AFAIK the practical applications of quantum computers are that they can efficiently solve certain problems that classical computers fundamentally can't. I don't think it matters what software you run or if you call that software intelligent if you don't have the right hardware.
>>544172411well the point is that ai companies are warning of an impending mass catastrophic event caused by aiencryption breaking could be itand recently BTC addresses that were dormant for a decade+, satoshi era wallets, are being drainedone has to question if a government has this ability already
>>544172493I think you'd be wise to trust those companies even less than you should the clickbaiters.
>>544171490The industry has been moving gradually to post quantum crypto for years now.New OpenSSH versions emit annoying warnings about it when you still use legacy RSA/ECC crypto.BTW AES256 is still fine.As for the usual AI fear mongering, this has nothing to do with crypto, it's just a quick way to chain common vulnerabilities so yeah now it's very cheap to find some powerplant telemetry server running windows server 2003 and messing with it.
>>544172612it's not out of the realm of possibility that they have some event planed to destroy the governments of the world and bring in a replacementso I trust them far less than you assume
>>544172666there's plenty of quantum resistant cryptos but many aren't including BTCthat isn't the only point being made, this affects a ton of data which has been being gathered by foreign governments or bad actors for decadesall that information becoming unlocked is a potential massive issue
>>544171490It is by my will alone that I set my mind in motionIt is by the beans of Java that my thoughts acquire speedMy hands acquire shakesThe shakes become a warningIt is by my will alone that I set my mind in motion
>>544172678I meant that you should be more skeptical of the claims you say they're making, not that you trust them to be appropriately averse to certain actions.
>>544172886well yeah there's a good chance that nothing ever happens, but there's also a chance that something maybe happenslike ai cracking encryption and decades of information once kept secret becoming public knowledgechina is saving tons of military encrypted information for this day, what comes out if that is releasedkinda fun to speculate on
>>544171490They will just reset the bank and stocks server to a previous state ez with blockchain. Afterwards its an arms encrypt decrypt race. The whole proof enterprise being incomplete or inconsistent + reformulating axioms so rusells paradox is a syntax error (like declaring dark energy because the calculus did not work) is disturbingPerhaps slower transactions and comms have advantages
>>544173754what crypto though
>>544171490>singularity
>>544172493>and recently BTC addresses that were dormant for a decade+, satoshi era wallets, are being drainedwheres your source for this? i cant seem to find any info about it
>>544177607
>>544172091>4chan gets shut down>totally not cracked encryption goyriiiight...
>>544171490>IT'S COOMING!
>>544171490>checks quantum computing firms recent stock market performanceyeah i think we're fine.
