>>544181793In the USA we have bots that call random numbers, expecting you to say your name. When you do, they hang up and use your name and tone of voice to call your family and beg them for money.Happened to my brother, he answered a call like that and gave his name, and it hung up. A week later grandad got scammed by a bot call claiming to be my brother calling, begging and crying for money from a jail in another state. Point being is that anyone with sense nowadays usually just picks up and listens for the caller to introduce themselves. Surely they know who they're calling and have something to say? I don't need to introduce myself, you called me.

>>544182117I don't know if it's still exactly the same (although I bet it's similar) but when I was a broke teenager, I worked a call center cold calling people to try and convince them to get chimney cleanings and the system they used would call you and then if it heard a human voice, it would connect an operator. Anyone who just picked up and said nothing would hear nothing in return and then the system would hang up.That job was soul crushing and I didn't make three weeks.
