The way to think of it is like this. When a European ship arrived upon new native lands, whether they were in Japan, or Australia, or Indonesia, or Africa, or Cuba....whatever. They saw the same exact thing everywhere. Poor people, huddled around a fire, in a squabble with some other poor people over the hill that way. The native people would try to explain to them the great importance of fighting that other irrelevant pissant tribe. But the Europeans just...didn't care. They had their own interests. They would deal with whoever was willing to deal with them, to open up trade and resources. Other than that, they just didn't care about the petty politics of these backwards people. Now of course the Europeans had their own struggles against each other. The French vs. the English. The Spanish vs. the English. These squabbles between the Europeans had *immense importance* for the native peoples, who often found themselves pressured to take a side. To back one horse, or the other. But look at it from the perspective of a native tribe. You can either back the English who will genocide you and then "civilize" the remnants. Or you can back the Spanish who will mass-rape you and enslave you, and convert you to their god. It doesn't matter who you choose, you're destroyed either way. Fast forward 500 years, sure enough, all those people are destroyed completely. So the point is, when you get sucked into someone else's dichotomy, it's a sign that you lost. You are irrelevant, and you are being overtaken by these other people. No matter which of them wins, you lose. It's only when you enforce YOUR dichotomy, that you can start winning. Make them take a side in YOUR struggle, and then take the best offer transactionally. Right now we're asked to choose between jews and muslims. Well, what if we stopped giving a fuck, and then asked them to take a side in our struggle between hippie liberals and the white right?
