What was /pol/ like in 1999, the year that the € was officially introduced into the banking system, the year of the Kosovo war, the year Kyocera introduced the first consumer-grade cellphone cameras, the year The Matrix was released, etc.? Were people legitimately worried about the 'Y2K' bug, or was that mostly media hype? What were the prevailing political and social debates of the era, on /pol/ or elsewhere?

1999 was the year where humanity was fully enslaved.

I was playing demo games on my cousin's PC from magazine CDs and I thought the games were short because I had no fucking idea what a demo was. Outlaws 1997 being one of them.

i was 13. sent out emails at a tamagotchi-like browser game where you had to raise ape-men (you could actually get a player's email address from their profile page), that to update our systems for Y2K we need the following data:
>email address
>year of registration
>name of your ape-man
>etc..
>password
don't remember how many emails i sent out but got full access to several highly trained and skilled ape-men and could see all the bounties that i was only meant to receive after over a year of playing

1997 to 2004 was the big gaming expansion
it peaked with Unreal Tournament 2004 - one of the last real good games that ran on MX cards, before the shader slop too over

total niggers killed unreal and do the dogshit fortnight
and the other part of the team went to do Warframe, but Warframe is not Chinese, and actually it was never good

File upload sizes were very limited to keep it dialup friendly.

back then normies hated computers
and we had dreams of having pocket computers
in the end normies got phones and that is how computers went mainstream

My favorite show at the time was Barney & Friends. I watched it almost every day, but when school started one of the kids made fun of me for it so I stopped. I liked video games but we couldn't really afford them (though I did have an old SNES with Super Mario World and Mario Kart) so I collected and read strategy guides like the one by Prima for Ocarina of Time. I must have read that one a thousand times. I remember taking it with me on road trips or when my mom took me with her to the supermarket. When I eventually played the real thing in 2003 it wasn't as good as my imagination had made it out to be, but it wasn't bad. On New Year's Eve, I remember crying because 1999 was going away forever. Can't remember if I did that for the other years.

I was a 20 year old sergeant in the Army Infantry. I was married to my first wife who was a total cunt, but she ate cum like she needed it to live. I was stationed in Colorado and just got my first cable internet connection. I didn't pay attention to politics and few people my age did at the time because it wasn't everywhere all of the time and being engaged in like it was a team sport. There were no trannies, most of the population was White everywhere you went outside of big cities. There were zero jeets anywhere. Gas was about $1.25 per gallon where I lived in CO. And that was considered expensive. Me and two other buddies got together to share the rent on a really nice, huge house in Colorado Springs where we each had our own floor. Total rent was $950 per month. Oh, and a ton of people really were convinced that Y2K was going to cause all of the nukes to go off. But they were in a minority. Most people just didn't give a shit because even back then most people could recognize nonsense.

There was genuine concern about the Y2K bug, but it was mostly the "audit code and settings to make sure our systems aren't going to glitch out in weird ways" kind of concern, not "oh shit everything's going to burn" kind.

The Millennium seemed like the biggest tardfest of misplaced nostalgia, fearmongering and anticlimactic hedonism at the time, but now that's become par for the course
