"They've annihilated my field of research": French mathematician Hugo Duminil-Copin, a Fields medalist, reveals he CRYED after OpenAI published hundreds of papers claiming to solve still-open mathematical problems, including 16 he was working on.

“On Tuesday night, I cried, and it woke my daughter. [OpenAI] annihilated my field of research. They wanted to prove they could massacre us.”

He is particularly worried about the future of young researchers and speaks of a "dismantling" of his discipline. (Le Monde)

Math is not it's own goal. For those that like to study it and revel in it's mysteries, they can continue to do so as a hobby. Fermat was a hobbyist and so were many others. For applicative stuff, it hurts no one to pull back the veil and discover some more of it, whatever the means used. This is like AI slop art. For an artist who paints for pleasure, nothing is lost. For the artist who makes something that should be pleasure a job, it is a nightmare if their customers are not discerning enough to buy something that lacks any soul. The mathematics is infinite anyway. There is still use for a person with aptitude in logic who was intelligent enough to become a full time mathematician and there always will be. A true STEM person should not be bothered that a tool exists that moves their field along faster

this is part of a reset. it's why we can't remember how to do things better. lost knowledge, but likely intentional rather than accidental. naturally things do get lost over time, but i believe there is/was intentional obfuscations.

it's possible there were advanced civilizations in the past. they may have even had ai or something similar. i also think these kinds of resets, whether natural or not, happen frequently and without losing tech completely. may be a bit of a backslide, may be not. a point where there is lost continuity, but things continue to progress and advance slowly. i would count portions of the web being nuked/deleted/sanitized/drowned out as an example.

The proof for 1+1=2 is insanely stupid.

Did any of your math cucks ever bomb anyone, especially one who turned out to have supplied children to Epstein Island? No? Then fuck off.

>There is no way some LLM solved an outstanding problem in theoretical math.
That's literally the best use of a transformer. You input the start on one end and the finish on the other and the transformer fills in the middle steps.

You only need to add a validator to verify that intermediate steps are legal. Transformers do back propagation anyways to check their work.

"ai" is just a search of a data set of preexisting scraped human knowledge so all that's happened is that shit was already figured out and was found. His fun is ruined in that he can't claim credit for what other people have already worked out/the list of existing problems weren't.

>fit experimental dataset [A] to a universal equation and explain the physics relationships for all parameters
AI literally exists to brute force, test and refine these problems.

>>544212153
Plagiarism is only bad when you don't cite the source. Also there's a whole citation racket where academics artificially raise up their citation numbers.

Which is a useless degree now

Ted was literally just a deranged communist murderer, I read the manifesto and his second book as well, he is not interesting at all. The shitting on leftists slaps but it’s all in the tone of a depressed post leftist, and a lot of his fans started out as normie leftists that never read anything else. Just look at his very fair treatment on the rationalwiki. His philosophy, if you can call it a philosophy at all since he actually offers very little to support his beliefs, is neither descriptive or prescriptive, the whole time you are just trying to figure out who he is based on who he hates. You can’t pin him down with anything until you realize he is who he hates and his entire project is a kind of purging of sin to purify himself as a leftist. The structure of his beliefs is just the leftist structure, his fears of technological lifestyles being worse than primitive lifestyles just his value judgement he wants to force on everyone else. I’m just mad he is called a libertarian.

Fair enough, but he achieved something 99% of leftists can never do: realize the error of ways and seek to show others that leftism is wrong.
