I can tell you. It went wrong when they trusted a Jew. Early in the war, they made a peace deal with Ukraine that Ukraine then backstabbed them on while they were withdrawing from Kiev. Russia never went through social evolution like European countries did. They never evolved from feudalism. They never got a middle class. They never had their people decide their country's direction. To this day, russia is still a feudal society. The rulers in moscow loot all the riches from other parts, and the peasants have no role but to obey their rulers.

Well, its figthing against a Suported by NATO country, not NATO itself. Its not a small diference, if NATO can do all this damage without even figthing in the front, imagine what can it do in a convenctional war...

Many people underestimate that alliance, but the fact is that NATO, despite all its problems, is the most powerfull alliance in the word rigth now.
>>
>>544214715
Yes but also no.

The fundamental problem comes from the social norms imposed during Mongol rule.
Mongols didn't give a shit about how their territory was ruled only that they got their tribute. So this encouraged the Russian ruling class to be nothing more than robber barons who rule through force and take as they please.
This behaviour spread down.
Every time a Russian ruler tried to change this they either died at the hands of these robber barons or they became one in the end.
No grand social movements ever managed to change it either.
So yeah you're right they had no social revolution.
But you're wrong in that its about feudalism.
This behaviour predates feudalism and endures regardless of how Russia changes politically or socially.

Wealth and strength are unfortunately idolised in Russia (something they have in common with Americans)
>>
>>544214645
Statistics show the opposite. After 1991, the Baltic states experienced a deep and protracted economic downturn. For example, in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, the decline in production was one of the most significant among post-communist countries. The recession in the Baltic states continued until 1994.

Before World War II, most Eastern European countries were agrarian. Czechoslovakia was an exception, but Poland, Hungary, Romania, and the Baltics had weak industry. After the war, the USSR forcibly industrialized these countries. By the 1980s, for example, in East Germany and Czechoslovakia, the share of mechanical engineering in exports to the USSR was very high.

>>
>>544215183
Mongol influence strengthened the already existing Byzantine model of autocracy. Russia was not a "blank slate" before the Mongols. Kievan Rus already had a strong princely power inherited from Byzantium. The Mongols did not create autocracy from scratch, but reinforced a trend that had already emerged.

Russian autocracy took shape under conditions of constant military threat from the west and south, the absence of natural borders, and the need to mobilize resources for defense. This created a demand for strong central power regardless of any Mongol legacy.

Ivan Kalita collected tribute from all the Russian principalities and delivered it to the Horde, but kept part of it for himself. It was precisely these surpluses that allowed Moscow to become the center of unification. Serfdom took shape gradually: the Sudebnik of 1497 restricted peasant movement, and the Sobornoye Ulozheniye of 1649 finally enserfed them. The Mongol period ended in 1480. A direct connection between the Mongol "attachment of peasants" and Russian serfdom has not been proven; rather, they are parallel processes caused by similar needs to mobilize resources.

The thesis of "plunder" contradicts even the banal data on Soviet subsidies. In 1974–1978, the USSR provided Eastern European countries with trade subsidies averaging $5.8 billion per year, in 1979 — $10.4 billion, and in 1980 — $21.7 billion. These subsidies arose because the USSR supplied oil and gas to Eastern Europe at below-world prices, while importing from there machinery and equipment that often found no market in the West. Economically, the USSR would have benefited if it had sold energy resources to the West rather than to Eastern Europe.
>>

"Subsidies" that are a fraction of what you've first stolen from them. Look at Bashkortostan today for example. Russians say that they get lots of subsidies. But it's a tiny fraction compared to the oil that gets looted from there.

So no, russia has never subsidized anything. All the European countries occupied by USSR were constantly looted, that is why they remained poor and started prospering as long as the occupier was no longer there to loot them.

If the “departure of the occupier” automatically leads to prosperity, why is Ukraine in 2024 3.4 times poorer than Poland, even though in 1991 it was 21% richer?

COMECON subsidies were enormous in the 1970s–80s. $21.7 billion in 1980 — that is more than the USSR spent on many civilian programs.

>They had a space station, half of Europe
You answered your own question there, they were living off of half of Europe, as you probably well know, after it being handed to them on a silver platter by the Allies for no fucking reason whatsoever and despite having started WW2 with Hitler by signing a pact, Molotov-Ribbentrop, to carve up Europe, which for some bizarre reason the Allies then decided to grant them anyway.

Why do you think they're so desperate to go on another imperialist adventure?

As for where everything went wrong, with Stalin obviously, but later when the SU collapsed they had ONE FUCKING CHANCE to get rid of their overlords and they didn't take it. Not a single Soviet official was prosecuted, imprisoned or executed. Despite said officials having sent tens of millions to their deaths.

That was their chance and they blew it, because at that point they were all 100% brainwashed commie sheep, the rot ran too deep, and they were past the point of no return.

Now they're all just hoping the problem magically solves itself without an uprising or violence, which is of course wishful thinking. The Siloviki mafia are never giving up power willingly, and they'll never allow Russia to become an actual democracy where people would start asking questions.

Losing their war is unironically the best chance and hope Russia has for change, that's how it's been historically, even the Soviet Union collapsed after losing their war in Afghanistan.

The USSR subsidized its satellites by selling them oil and gas below world prices. In 1980, these subsidies reached $21.7 billion, which amounted to more than 1.5% of the USSR's GNP. You imply that the departure of the "occupier" automatically leads to prosperity. But Ukraine after 1991 did not become prosperous, while Poland did. The reason is not the departure of the USSR, but the quality of reforms. If departure automatically gave prosperity, Ukraine and Moldova would be richer than Poland today.

You condemn the USSR for the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, but the Allies themselves signed the Munich Agreement (1938), giving Czechoslovakia to Hitler. Did the West know about the secret protocols? Not necessarily.
