Wumaos celebrate China's "trade surplus," but poor countries almost always run a trade surplus while rich countries almost always run a trade deficit. The reason is because people in poor countries can't afford imports. China's trade surplus always skyrockets whenever the Chinese economy goes into recession, because domestic demand implodes and all the manufactures must be dumped onto foreign markets.

>poor countries almost always run a trade surplus while rich countries almost always run a trade deficit.
Germany says hi.
Running a trade deficit is a political choice when you decide to run down your own manufacturing, not an inevitability of being rich.
>>
So what? Why don't other countries just build more competitive cars?
>>
>>544221874
Germany uses the Eurozone to devalue it's own currency. They're an outlier and no longer a major exporter, so that's dated.
>>544221895
Other countries build cars that compete on things other than price. Everything that China makes only competes on price. No one buys a chink brand for any reason besides it being cheap. This is a serious problem and prevents China from climbing the value chain and escaping the middle income trap.
>>
>>544221776
>The reason is because people in poor countries can't afford imports.
China has one of the largest luxury import markets on the planet, and the second highest number of high net worth individuals out of any country. China’s middle class is roughly the same size as America’s entire population. And everybody is buying their cars because western car companies are being enshittified and are no longer supplying adequate quality to justify their price tags. Western brands are running on nothing but pure inertia from a bygone era.

>Western brands are running on nothing but pure inertia from a bygone era.
Sure chang. Name a single Chinese luxury brand.
>>
>>544221776
>Why is domestic demand cratering?
you really only need 1 car.
>>
>>544222011
I'm pretty sure Chinese EV's are widely regarded as being superior in both quality and price point to their competitors

>>
>>544221776
It's complicated
Gulf states, Norway, Germany, France etc all run trade surplus
>>
>>544222404
Regarded by whom? And why would they need to be so cheap if they're superior in quality?
>>
>>544221776
>Ppl stop buying new cars cuz most people now has one
>Hurr why isnt the invisible hand of the market incentivizing ppl to CONSOOM MOAR the numbers on reports are not gonna be as big and small number BAD

So you inherit a million
Instead of investing it you just throw it left and right for a couple of months, shoving down thousand dollar bills down strippers' thongs and snorting luxury designer coke. What do you think your financials will look like after a year of a lifestyle like this? Once war breaks out and you have absolutely fuckall infustry or infrastructure due to being a meme service economy, what then?
>>
>>544223581
Lol, brainlet.
Globalization is more complicated than that. A lot of Western trade deficits come from Western companies moving production to countries with cheaper labor and importing the goods back.
For example, Poland exports huge amounts of car parts to Germany, where they're assembled into finished cars.
>>
Tbh, the car example probably isn't the best one. Modern companies often buy parts from independent suppliers, and some Polish car parts manufacturers are Polish-owned. Better examples would be German companies operating their own factories in lower-wage countries, like Volkswagen in Slovakia, Audi and Mercedes in Hungary, or BMW in South Africa.

Ir ką darysi kai trečias pasaulinis prasidės, tu kariauji prieš tas valstybes kurios turi automobiliu gamyklas ir jas gali perdirbti į tankų gamyklas, o tu tuo tarpu turi šūdą ir nieką? Ką iš kieno pirksi? Iš kokių pinigų? Galvoji pasaulinio karo metu kasnors pirks supistą prancūzišką vyną? Kiek pasaulinio prekybinio laivyno procentaliai sudaro kiniški laivai? Jei reiktų į karą eiti, kiek jie turi uostų infrastruktūros katrą galėtų pritaikyti karinių laivų gamybai bei remontui? O kiek Europa? Gerai kad tu žinai kaip visiškai strategiškai nesvarbu turėti savo industrinę infrastruktūrą. Paaškink visai europai kad čia be reikalo panikuoja.
Buta tikriausiai irgi nuomuojies, jug nx savo kažką turėt kai gali pinigus švaistyti ant dalykų kurie tau neduoda jokios ilgalaikės naudos.
Debilas esi.

their imports are at a record high though. domestic consumption is increasing at 2.8% and that is with everything getting cheaper. less people need to buy cars because they're rapidly building out the world's largest mass transit system. 86% of the world's HSR is in china while 82% of the world's subway lines are in china

Every thread becomes Eastern Europeans seething at each other.
>>
>>544225625
>that is with everything getting cheaper
Yeah, lack of demand causes immense price pressure that is crushing Chinese manufacturers.

everything is getting cheaper because of massive increase in production volume that culminated from decades of building out their manufacturing base and integrating supply chains vertically and horizontally. this cause a massive economy of scale that the world can't compete with. economist calls this china shock 2.0. last year, over half of global electricity demand growth came from china. that means they are industrializing faster than all other countries combined.
>>
>>544226065
Right but domestic demand is crashing so it's a race to the bottom for Chinese manufacturers. Involution is what they call it in China, but you know this already.

they are clearly upgrading their manufacturing base. case in point. picrel is a tunnel boring machine (TBM).In 1997, China wasn't exporting any TBMs. today, china is exporting TBMs and has gradually gained 70% share of the international market.

DJI dominates the consumer and prosumer drone industries. movies made by Christopher Nolan use DJI drones for their production because they have the best tech. Hollywood, US police/fire departments, consumer drone enthusiasts, use DJI drones because they offer the best product by far. this is a fact.

Ford's CEO Jim Farley said he drove a Chinese electric car for six months and said he didn't want to give it up. He says Chinese cars have better tech, quality and performance.

GM executives says China has the most advance EV batteries in the world. That's why the use batteries from CATL.

meanwhile, it used to be $35,000-$40,000 to equip a car with lidar 5 years ago. today it's $200. four Chinese companies, led by Hesai, control around 90% of the global lidar market.

this is happening throughout a shitload of industries. gopro is now losing to china's insta360. roomba is losing to china's roborock. take a look at space heaters. this popular youtube channel tests different brands of space heaters using different technical evaluations. the chinese brand comes out on top for energy efficiency, safety, quickest to heat a room, etc. the best brand is the chinese one.

i wonder what the hell germany is going to do. five years ago, 40% of BMW's sales came from consumers in China, 38% for Audi and it was 37% for Mercedes Benz. VW had 50% of its sales from China at one point. now china is the world's largest car exporter and german car companies are losing market share to chinese car companies in china

meanwhile your energy cost are going up from both the war in russia and iran
