wouldn't simple signal jammers be enough to counter them? i don't see how drones would be immune to that
>>
If you're so smart then jam them yourself

why cant they just use scissors to snip the wires????

fly by wire, Eastern Ukraine looks like a cat found a WHOLE bunch of fishing line and started playing with it, it's fucking everywhere.

fiber optics nigga, they still use radio controlled too because jamming 1500 km of front is actually impossible.

they go
>bzzzzzz
>explode into a russian asshole
>>
>>544240798
this nigga knows. Soon there will be AI drones, unjammable because they're gathering the info themselves
>>
>>544240853
sure, but getting behind one to snip the fiber optic line isn't exactly easy if it's chasing you but they line roads with nets to catch them and they can get tangled in trees too. I suppose if you thought you had a chance to loop one around a big tree and then run off.. maybe?
But you're probably too slow.

There is literally no way to stop them, watch the video.

Apparently Hegseth disbanded the US army’s only FPV drone department after a month. These things will start killing Americans very soon.
>>
>>544240733
They didnt have jammers early part of the war, now there is a cable on a spool on the back of everyone of them
>>
Nobody knows how effective these are, many of the videos you see show lone, possibly already injured people being executed. It seems like they must be amazingly effective but overall it's very difficult to tell. I have a feeling that the bigger longer-range flying bomb UAV types are more decisive in terms of the war efforts. And even the recon UAVs as well. These guys seem like more of a psychological weapon. I also have my doubts about their endurance with such a load. You're talking maybe, fifteen minutes of battery life.
>>
>>544240798
wtf, surely they can't go too far... right? long cables gotta be heavy

these fpv drones completely wreck infantry, mechanized or otherwise. in concert with artillery and mines they make advancing next to impossible. which is why the war is so stagnant
>>
>>544241170
man i seriously doubt they are that effective, for one thing the types useful against armor or equipment aren't going to be the kind you use against infantry

overall I suspect the smaller drones are less effective than the bigger ones, which are less effective than artillery and that's less effective than glide bombs, missiles, and rocket flamethrowers etc

the small ones are like man portable anti tank weapons, a purely defensive weapon
>>
>>544241296
the drones really are that effective. the glide bombs and missiles are used to try and dislodge entrenched drone teams. there's also drone vs drone warfare when opposing drone teams manage to get close enough together

>>544241484
Man I know it all seems that way and I'm not saying this doesn't happen, either. My contention is it probably isn't decisive. If anything this kind of drone shit probably created vast no man's lands where normal troops barely even go, and you have special operations teams working under cover of counter drone operations, doing the odd daring thing or whatever every once in a while. And that seems pretty badass. But mostly I bet they real casualties and losses of equipment are caused by artillery, missiles, larger flying bomb type drone strikes, etc.

you're right in the sense that tactical fpv drones cannot win the war at a stroke. creating that "no man's land" is their sole purpose, and they would not cause such destruction and terror if retarded commanders did not attempt to keep sending men into mine fields while under artillery fire and drone attacks. but they just keep sending them, and the drones keep blowing them up

Starfish Prime was a high-altitude nuclear test conducted by the United States, a joint effort of the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and the Defense Atomic Support Agency. It was launched from Johnston Atoll on July 9, 1962, and was the largest nuclear test conducted in outer space, and one of five conducted by the US in space.

A Thor rocket carrying a W49 thermonuclear warhead (designed at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory) and a Mk. 2 reentry vehicle was launched from Johnston Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, about 900 miles (1,450 km) west-southwest of Hawaii. The explosion took place at an altitude of 250 miles (400 km), above a point 19 miles (31 km) southwest of Johnston Atoll. It had a yield of 1.4 Mt (5.9 PJ). The explosion was about 10° above the horizon as seen from Hawaii, at 11 pm Hawaii time.[1]:3
>>
>>544241711
guess there can be some extended range spools but that would be heavier, requiring a heavier drone frame and probably flies a lot slower.
But I highly doubt we got "hundreds of miles" on anything, that'd be a LOT of glass wire.

You are absolutely fucking retarded
Drones literally allow you to attack your enemy’s positions and assets remotely. In the Ukraine war, we’ve seen both sides smuggle drones into enemy territory and use it to attack sensitive military targets.

If that isn’t a game changer then I don’t know what is.

>wouldn't simple signal jammers be enough to counter them? i don't see how drones would be immune to that

Yeah, that's why they spool off giant threads of fiber optic wire behind them. Ukraine is littered with millions of miles of fiber optic.

the standard spools they used when they started using them were 10-15km they've been extending the range over time
I was just going off old info.
I remember hearing something about the IDF needing to push Hezbollah back about 6 miles cause that was the range of their fiber optic drones

apparently the Ukrainians are already using drones that when they get within about 1000m of a target, the operator locks a target and then AI in the drone takes over, so they lose communication but it doesn't matter, the Computer Vision AI model in the drone flies the rest of the way and detonates, and they do it in drone swarms. The ones they're flying into Russia are like that so they can't be jammed.
It's hunter killer Terminator shit.
>>
>>544241992
russians are using tanks built in the 60s, i dont think they have the capability to deploy newly developed weapons on a 1500 km sized front
>>
>>544242110
I'm actually wondering what they have left for modern tanks. I've seen a lot less T90 and T80 kills in the past year or so than at the start.
>>
>>544241728
I still think it's overall, not as scary as it looks.

>>544241730
What's the problem, sweatie? The real fun starts when these go fully autonomous, for now it's more of a PR stunt or terror weapon than a huge game changer. I'm sure it's being experimented with even now, even in Ukraine.

Have the little things on orbit, an area denal weapon where if they don't find a target they can fly back to a little charging station. It'll be just like in my video games. Until then I'm moderately impressed but I had a RC helicopter ages ago, these are that plus a camera and a bomb, basically.

Loitering munition drones, yes.
Russia used them first and then Ukraine copied them. They either use AI or a “pixel-lock” system where the operator can literally “click” to where he wants to drone to go.

The drone attack from the trucks was pretty bold stuff but that only really worked once right? I mean so far as I know.

Drone warfare in general is a big game changer, sure, but my contention is that the small and mid-sized cheap flying bomb types are much more effective and devestating than the FPV kind, even if the flying bomb types are mostly suitable only for attacking fixed targets or stationary equipment. I know both sides have more expensive anti-material type drones too and I'm sure these are useful but even so, the replacement of the cruise missile with the flying lawn mower dorito chip drones was the real tech advance we saw in the last 5+ years. Dollar for dollar anyway. Russia also has some incredible new missiles they have been using a lot and improving over time, no doubt. But nope it's the Shahed and family that's the real winner of these wars.
>>
>>544242330
>Russia used them first and then Ukraine copied them.
par the course. Russia also started using fIber optic drones first because the combined intelligence network of the west kept cracking and jamming the frequencies they used for their drones. I don't like Russia, but I can't help but have a grudging respect for ruski ingenuity.
>>
>>544241892
>the day they really develop ai targeting its fucking over
Shaheds/Gerans use GPS to reach their target, but the US made LUCAS drones use AI to match video feed to encrypted topographic maps. We're inching closer to the drones autonomously matching pictures of people's faces before diving.
>>
>>544242375
>But nope it's the Shahed and family that's the real winner of these wars.
It doesn't matter if it's a shahed with a 100lb payload or an FPV drone with a grenade, the key takeaway from the Iran war and the Ukraine war is the word "saturation". Overwhelming the enemy with cheap guided munitions and hopefully bankrupting them in the process of defending themselves is the future. Even the US isn't prepared for these tactics and the stockpile of patriot missiles is dangerously low as a result.
>>
>>544240853
I am sure the TCC would be more than happy to send you into no-man’s land with a lair of scissors to test this hypothesis. Report back to us.
>>
>>544241992
It is weird isn't it? Some shotgun contraption with a camera and AI recognition of drones should have been fielded on every vehicle by now but there's nothing.
Tanks should look like 40k Baneblades with all the guns and turrets sticking out of them to shoot down drones.
>>
aren't they now preseeded a list of coordinates and it makes a independent decision on which one? basically immune to being jammed and already being done by ukraine and iran
>>
>>544241296
>man i seriously doubt they are that effective
They replaced artillery and mortars as the number one killer on the battlefield. Something like 70-80% of the casualties on either side is caused by a drone now.
>>
>>544240878
Right now every state military bans the use of autonomous weapons, except for mines. One day they're going to classify these drones as "air mines" which will allow for the production of these weapons as a loophole.
>>
>>544240733
they have cables, retard. you cant jam these. you can see the fiver optics cable hanging :3
>>
>>544243960
A radar-guided gatling gun that fires something like .410 shells, 9mm, or even .22lr could work.
>>
>>544244025
They are starting to replace mines for area denial too. They just camp out at a road junction.
>>
>>544240733
Nah jammers are like beacons and ghey get targeted by fiber optic drones that cannot be jammed then they spam rc drones. No reliable solution exists and the murder fields continue until the next technological leap.

No, not just jam, you would need to EMP them since the autonomous ones are not necessarily receiving any wireless instructions, they are making decisions based on their internal sensory data specifically to bypass jamming attempts.

>>
>>544240733
Any modern drone uses frequency hopping, even the civilian ones, so if you jam one frequency it just automatically moves to another one. You need a jammer powerful enough to jam every frequency at the same time and a jammer like that is simply too big to deploy near the front line.

Even when all signals are jammed, they can still operate in blind / disconnected mode. They continue on their mission as best they can, relying on pre-programmed fallback instructions. Perhaps to exfiltrate the area,or suicide bomb target's most likely location based on calculated projections.
