This was right after they made it clear to the world that they were nuclear armed and thus incapable of being invaded and regime changed by the US. Movies like Team America are a interesting little time capsule from that period in time where everyone genuinely bought into this shit and believed it was the most dangerous and evil country in the world. If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say the younger generations have a mostly neutry view of Best Korea because they didn't spend their formative years being inundated with all of this mockery and fear mongering of a country that literally just wants to keep to itself and do it's own thing to the best of it's ability.
