Seems reasonable enough to me. Even travel within the solar system is fucking nuts. People want to believe there is a vast unexplored universe out there to discover, but the truth is even our solar system is so huge that no man could ever even begin to see the whole thing. Maybe some time in the distant future interstellar transit will be possible, but it is so far beyond our horizon we cannot even begin to comprehend it. The guy is just being realistic.

Keep on dreaming, though. I'm seriously. Humanity needs dreamers just as much as it need a wet blankets to advance. There's a balance there. And I suppose there is no point in telling you not to get butthurt about it, because if there was no pulling between sides there would be no progress. For my part though, I'm siding with the buzzkill.
>>
>>544293534
We’re already mining asteroids. Cope cuck and don’t breed. Also get smarter so you can be useful to us.
>>
>>544292095
AI feinman already red pilled me on that, the faster you go the more energy you need, the more energy you need the heavier you are and thus you need more energy. Basically you need wormholes. You can at best send small probes with cameras.
>>
>>544292095

>>
>>544292095

>>
>>544293611
Intrasolar trsvel is possible and will happen. Extrasolar travel is impossible without wormholes, you cannot solve the energy and weight problem without wormholes.
>>
>>544292095
I believe if we castrated and made nonwhites slaves centuries ago then we could have a moon and mars base by now. To even achieve viable bases off planet you need resources working together. Borders and politicians prevent this. Especially differing races prevent this. Old creating laws that benefit themselves instead of focusing on future prevents this as well.
I want to explore space but it will not happen in our or our children's children's children's children lives. I've said it time and time again on this board. The great filter is differing races, kikes and greed. If you have a racebowl and destroy financial systems then you can achieve space travel. Otherwise stuck on this planet. Maybe next reset after a giant solar flare will be better off.

The goal is never the goal, it's just the motivation to create the future.

Weight / energy problem. Taking a ship even at 0.1 light speed to the next solar system requires a lot of energy; a lot of energy means more weight; more weight means more energy; more energy means more weight; and on and on. There is no way, not even magic energies like dark matter or cold fusion, it will not happen. You would need a tiny probe with a camera that’s it. The only way to get a ship full of people here to the next solar system is by wormholes.
>>
>>544292095
OK, well, let's industrialize the whole solar system then. Then we'll see if reaching the next solar system still seems so impossible. It'd be a good thing to do anyway.
If it's possible it's probably what it'll take BTW. Airliners were commonplace before landing on the moon. There won't be a flight to the next solar system until asteroids mining, deep-space foundries, orbital cyclers, etc, are commonplace. It'll need massive resources so you need to get massive resources.
It's unlikely that anyone alive today would see even the beginning of it though. The Starship isn't going to Mars. It might not even go to the Moon. It's a defense project to be able to replace low-orbit military satellites faster than Russia or China could shoot them down. Future wars will be extremely dependent on satellites.
Our oligarchs already speak of data centers in space. Why? I think it's another weapon in a way. They fear the plebs revolting against digital control. They want to eliminate most cable communications (among other public infrastructure) and make people dependent on orbital networks. Keep everything safe up there.
It's all being pointed inward, towards Earth.

hollowed out asteroids would be the best bet for interstellar travel.
you could have a fully pressurized habitation zone. it would be a lot easier to regulate temp with the insulation of the rock. it wouldn't be hard to have unpressurized docking airlocking into pressurized holds for the ships.
the shielding of all the rock would block most of the radiation and it would keep the whole crew from dying from a CME erupting randomly out of some star they are passing by.
it also helps a lot shielding from micro and macro meteorites.

In a lot of ways it has surpassed the human brain already
Artificial intelligence beat human grandmasters at chess decades ago
Artificial intelligence (AI) is currently much better than the human brain at processing, sorting, and analyzing massive amounts of data at high speeds
AI can scan the entire web, billions of documents, or gargantuan datasets in seconds
AI crunches numbers, translates languages, and executes structured, logic-based syntax processing at speeds vastly surpassing human biological limits

A calculator also surpasses the human brain. The mistake people make is believing that AI exactly overlaps with all the capabilities of the human brain. When its actually significantly different. An incredibly useful tool, but with significant limitations. AI is not actually intelligent in the way a human is. Its a different sort of intelligence.
>>
>>544292095
We will explore the galaxy. Assuming no faster-than-light technology, we can still do things such as construct large efficient solar sail ships, operated by advanced AI, and humans will either be in cryostasis or more likely have their minds transferred to computer constructs, and the ship will hold abundant resources, mostly robotics (many of which will be self-replicating), industrial equipment for resource extraction, purification, manufacturing, storing, assembling, etc.

A single one of these ships travelling even at even 0.1% of the speed of light (slightly less than double the speed of our current fastest satellite), combined with the galaxies natural spin, would allow it to reach every solar system in less than a billion years.

If you send out multiple ships and have the ships create additional ships along the route, you could explore the entire galaxy in about 1 million years.

Keep in mind, the galaxy is over 13 billion years old, so even a single ship using 1 billion years is just using a fraction of the galaxy's life span.

Alright anons here's the secret. FTL travel is possible if you bombard a 184-neutron isotope of element 115 with high energy plasma in a spherically-shaped encasement with a seamlessly-contiguous waveguide that directs the resulting antimatter into an emitter directed at a target point, creating a spacetime distortion allowing a disc-shaped craft to act as a lens, traversing physical space geodesically. OpenAI released hundreds of math solutions and proofs generated by an unreleased internal frontier AI model, vastly outpacing human mathematical output (centuries worth of advancement in 1 day).

Key Breakthroughs and Releases

• Massive Problem-Solving Batch: OpenAI published 722 manuscripts on GitHub divided into 372 result families (covering over 370 to 377 distinct open problems), spanning algebra, number theory, topology, mathematical logic, and theoretical computer science.

• Navier-Stokes Solution: OpenAI claimed a solution to the Navier-Stokes equation—one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems dealing with fluid dynamics—using an internal model backed by 10,000 concurrent agents (though the claim drew immediate debate over prior human research inputs).

• Riemann Hypothesis Progress: The model made progress on the quasi-Riemann hypothesis, aiming to rule out zeros in a zero-free half-plane beyond 7/8 for the Riemann zeta function.

• Hadwiger-Nelson Problem: It addressed the Hadwiger-Nelson problem, attempting to narrow the chromatic number of the plane to 6 or 7 colors.

• Computer Verification (Lean): Many of the generated proofs are accompanied by formalizations in the Lean proof-assistant language so computers can mechanically check the steps.

• Compute Efficiency: OpenAI reported that the average result required roughly three hours of compute equivalent to ChatGPT Pro thinking per problem.

AI models are now the primary means of developing new mathematics, vastly outcompeting human cognition. AI can solve mathematical problems that humans have been stuck on for decades or centuries.

And soon AI will outcompete humans at every cognitive ability.

I've been saying this for years, don't fucking steal ideas.
Space is too big, FTL will never be possible, there is too much in the way of debris to ensure long term survivability, the recycling system will need to work at >100% to account for losses, there has to be resource gathering points along the way, flipped bytes in all hardware needs to be accounted for and self correcting (probably organic compute), communication will probably stop working VERY early into the journey so you'll have to take all expertise with you.

It's just too unfeasible.

It gave the solutions, and in many cases it gave its reasoning (but often other AIs were needed to act as intermediary interpreters to translate the script of internal AI model so humans can understand it). In over 100 cases, the internal mode gave full Lean code to show the full proof.

There is a controversy that states that if the AI doesn't give its full thinking explanation that the solution is somehow diminished.

I find this thinking absurd for two reasons:
1) It still greatly advanced human knowledge and intellectual abilities and can contribute to improving human living standards. and
2) We have used mathematical solutions for all kinds of things without truly understanding them initially because it was lost to time. The underlying mathematical reasoning or proof of the Pythagorean theorem (\(a^2 + b^2 = c^2\)) was lost or unknown, treating the rule instead as a practical tool or magic formula.

In the future, AIs will produce mathematical solutions with perfect reasoning explained and it wont be long that the only entities capable of understanding future math will be other AIs. not because it can't be explained, but because our biological brains will be physically incapable of understanding them.

This guys mentions most points, but still misses some.

Interstellar space is pitch black. You could very easy fly into a Jupiter sized planet and wouldn't see it comming without some non-existent tech. There's no steering in space.

You need suicidal people to agree to take the trip and not go suicidemaxxing half way through. Psychological factor is near impossible overcome. That's even besides sociopaths and psychopaths taking over (which, so far is almost always the case, based on Earth's realities).

You can't do any maneuvering and detours to stock up on basics like water or oxygen, trajectory is a straight line due to how speed works in space. You will need absurd amount of matter to take aboard.

Children being born in space (if it's a multi gen trip) are going to find it difficult to survive. Assuming centrifugal force gravitation works out for fetus formation, cosmic radiation will malform and kill most of them.

Even if you reach another star - that's it, you're now a separate civilization and on your own. There's no communication and resupply.

Hope you have life and evolution figured out by then. Would hate to land on a habitable planet with no decomposition bacterium or water world with no atmospheric oxygen, or something similarly weird.

AlphaFold found the protein folding solutions for all possible proteins of life (over 200 million) in 6 weeks. It often took scientists a whole year just to solve one.

How many hot pockets worth of energy does a human have to consume in a single years times over 200 million?

OpenAI internal models solved over 300 math problems that takes mathematicians decades to complete (just for to solve one). How many hot pockets?

Frontier models are now ab le to create 3D assets, high quality music, pictures, cinema quality movies (Look at Higgsfield or Gossip Goblin on Youtube).

And it goes on and on.

Think of all the energy and resources it takes to create a human, raise them, teach and train them, and how much time they take to move the needle in any field (often taking many years). And this is not including all the resources it took just to evolve to this state, 4 BILLION YEARS!

Now compare to the astonishing breakthroughs of AI models in the last 3-4 years.

Humans can't hold a candle in the efficiency department.

I'm listening to AI music right now because its good and free and I don't have to give Jews and degenerates any of my money or attention.

Computational hardware has been growing exponentially, and its growth rate is growing exponentially, and AI models themselves are getting both smarter and more efficient (especially with compression).

And worse comes to worse, if the hardware cant keep pace, the companies just buy more hardware and improve the economies of scale.

Also, AIs themselves are making breakthroughs in practically every field of science and in computer hardware design.

We're going recursive everywhere.

The Earth has been around for over 4 billion years. Even if it took thousands or millions of years to travel to another star system, that's just a drop in the bucket. And you know what's far easier than FTL? Perfecting the human genome so even an individual can live for thousands or millions of years.

All the little sci-fi stories about going warp speed but having the same frail human body are not how things would realistically play out. Our organic brains will be super computers, our bodies will repair all damage to themselves perfectly and forever, and we'll live on space yachts cruising the galaxy.

It's not an opinion. It's being grounded in reality. You can let your mind wander and speculate about things that could happen if the laws of physics are a certain way that we don't understand in the slightest, but your thinking is based purely on imagination that is informed by nothing. You aren't taking something you know about how the universe works and thinking of how technology might reasonably work in the future if there is enough advancement. We know absolutely nothing about the physics or technology that would make interstellar civilization possible. For all we know it's physically impossible. There is no "type 1" "type 2" stuff that exists as anything other than pure fantasy. It's a category of the human mind based on nothing but wishful thinking.

There's not going to be an end to the universe.
Just because it's good TV doesn't mean the laws of thermodynamics suddenly become null and void, just like how the big bang sounds cool but violates those same laws.
>>
>>544299477
Not really. First you have to think about the payload. Just enough food, water, and supplies to last a single person for the duration of a 40 year trip weighs tons. Adding in greenhouses adds even more tonnage. The more tonnage you have, the larger the rockets have to be to move it, and the more fuel. But, sure, in your case, let's use nuclear bombs to propel the ship to 67 million miles per hour, or 10% of the speed of light (and decelerate it). Theoretically, you could get there in 40 years. Problem is that in all that void, there is the occasional matter. Ignoring larger objects, the free hydrogen alone is enough to slam the hull with 10kw of energy per square meter on a continuous basis. If we're talking dust, it will literally tear anything apart at that speed. The amount of shielding you would need is hard to fathom, and even harder to propel.

It's kind of the opposite of a propulsion source, seeing as it's literally slowing down the ship, and turning the hull molten. They theorized with the Bussard Ramjet that they could scoop up the free hydrogen on the path and use it as fuel, but to actually be in any way efficient, the scoop would have to be something like 5000km in diameter.

The size and shape of the vehicle matters immensely, just like aerodynamics. They even note that in the paper you linked. Of course, even their space probe project is more an ill-conceived notion to receive some funding, instead of anything actually viable. If you drive a sewing needle at 20% of the speed of light with a 200GW laser (which is essentially what they are proposing).. exactly what do you think will happen when it collides with a piece of space dust? Is the tenth of a gram of "shielding" really going to keep it on course? No, it is not. I'm sorry, their calculations and conclusions are incredibly dubious.

People are not aware yet, but ancient cosmology, astronomy and astrology are broken and incomplete remnants of a highly advanced science from pre-cataclysmic civilization.
>muh geo-centric universe
Einstein's relativity proved that any spatial coordinate system is relative, so a geo-centric model of the solar system or whatever is completely legitimate, as long as the math is consistent with that model.
It is highly probable that this geo-central model was used by the layperson for navigational purposes, to make it easier on the pilots and travelers. They let the machines do the complicated math to maneuver and navigate. After the cataclysm, that representation is what was most remembered.
Many such cases.

Yeah, ok, just verified details of Project Starshot. These tiny needle probes could potentially survive the expected hydrogen, and the smallest possible star dust, but could not survive contact with a lot of the space dust out there. They accounted for this. The entire plan was to send hundreds of thousands of them at once, in the hope that a few of them might make it there. So, no, that is certainly not a viable strategy for human interstellar travel.

>all these salty retorts to the facts
The predditor is right, you know. The light speed barrier is the firmest barrier to our spacefaring. If we cannot surmount light speed, our only hope that we as individuals get to travel the stars is we Ship of Theseus ourselves into the datacenters and fling ourselves as matrices executed on silicon.

Our biology as it stands is not amenable to the realities of space flight. At Voyager speeds it would take about as long to exit the Oort Cloud as it has been since that fictional huckster Jesus [supposedly] existed to walk the Earth. That is at least a hundred generations on a generation ship best case scenario, and no social or civic structure has even come close to lasting that long without undergoing decay that would destroy such a generational ship and its mission. Just to exit the Oort Cloud, not even reach the nearest neighboring star!

We have to Ship of Theseus into machines or we are stuck here until extinction! Good thing we are absurdly complex and fluid polynomials neurally encoded into existence here by our brains, we have some hope that an ML architecture could eventually host such polynomials.
