Japan should get along with Russia.
Japan can buy oil and gas from Russia.
Russia can get foreign currency income.
The hostage will come back.

It's win-win.

How does a mere journalist get hold of this kind of info in Sakhalin/Karafuto of all places
Sounds like BS

The Japanese government is notorious for recruiting amateurs as makeshift spies. When they get arrested by foreign governments, Japanese intelligence agencies simply abandon them to their fate. They literally offer zero assistance to these so-called "spies."

Got to be.

Sounds fake. Its RUSSIA. Id fucking bet that Japan couldve probably found some Russian that would have just sold that information to them, or scraped it off social media, or maybe even find it on a government website since rooskies are prone to doing that.

He asks around? I don't believe he was actually spying or "acting on instructions from Japanese intelligence agencies".

Japanese government sent many spies under the guise of journalists to China and Russia.
>>
Spying doesn't really seem worth the paycheck considering the penalty of getting caught is so serious.
