Transferring consciousness between bodies is the one experiment that absolutely needs to be tried in order to definitively resolve the issue of what our consciousness actually is and to solve countless questions that religion and philosophy poses.We need to find a way to swap bodies. Perhaps we just need to link nervous systems together or maybe there will be some other way to do it. If we figure it out we'll understand the nature of mind-body relationship a lot better and the possibility of consciousness outside of the body.It will also resolve for many people the issue of being trapped in a body they don't like. People could put out ads somewhere that they want to swap bodies and someone who wants their body could swap with them and they could come to a mutually beneficial agreement to swap bodies.Why does our consciousness have the boundaries it does, why is it tied to our body in the way it is, and how do we toy around with these boundaries? Is anyone even working on this at all?

Consciousness inherently cannot be scientifically studied because reported consciousness does not equal consciousness, and unreported consciousness does not equal lack of consciousness. And sample size is always 1. For all you know every point in space is conscious and for all you know nothing is conscious except you, there are zero inferences that can be made. You can even make a case consciousness doesn't exist because the concept isn't actually explaining anything that can't be attributed to other mechanisms.
the only way that could work is adding electronics to neurons. if you do this for long enough you eventually end up with 99% metal 1% flesh at which point you might as well just cut off the flesh, that is saying consciousness is not real, cant be touched, its an emergent phenomenon. only when all pieces are in place you are you. if you would swap your "spark" in another body, you would emerge as someone else entirely. and you wouldnt know who you are either. you would be some state between two people.
