Why anyone would want jumping cars on a road? Roads are already dangerous. Imagine adding jumping cars to multiply road crashes 10x. No civilized country in the world would allow or approve that garbage. The tech isn't even new. It's a 70s concept. It's a Circus stunt to grab investors money and be discarded in 5 months lol

Yeah. They're totally gonna let everyone fly everywhere. Little old blue hairs, nog teenagers will have systems in theirs, Jim the 'Nam vet totally won't crash into a government building, or some random Durkadurka won't fly into some public event with the flying car filled with explosives.

Future is totally awesome.

It's COOL. The coolness is the point. It's humans at play in a uniquely human way; taking the raw materials of the cosmos and forging them into things that could not have existed without our imaginations in the form we make them. It's good to have fun and do cool things, anon. Especially when the ability for us to disseminate information globally leads to so much novel unhappiness that we'd never have had before because the bad news just couldn't feasibly reach us, it's good to also broadcast stuff like
>hey, check it out! flying cars sorta! that's neat!
>>
It takes 9hrs to fill the nitrogen tank. Probably costs $1000 per "flight".

Lunar hopper mainframe but it would have to carry its own gas supply as lacking meaningful atmosphere. Could see it as a less infrastructural hassle than the current hypothetical method of lowering cargo and personnel down to surface from starship. If they get to processing liquid H2O and regolith fast enough a couple of swappable canisters for quick refueling of the cold gas traverse engines gets you some extended autonomy for off road missions. [Maglev trains and orbital elevators are the meta]

> The Pressure Differential: Modern F1 noise comes from rapid internal combustion cycles. Heavy cold gas thrusters rely on compressed gas expanding instantly into the atmosphere from extreme pressures (often up to 10,000 PSI).

>Supersonic Shockwaves: The air blasting out of a high-thrust cold gas nozzle travels at supersonic speeds (exceeding Mach 2). This creates literal mini-sonic booms (tearing noises) that can cause immediate eardrum rupture or permanent hearing damage to anyone standing nearby.
>>
>>544551608
The problem is that thrusters can't be used for long. Musk should try to make a proper hovercar that can fly for prolonged period of times. That's the next step.
>>
>>544552600

>>544551608
The space guy on Youtube Scott Manley did a breakdown. To lift that car you basically expand 40 to 50kwh of electricity in seconds. So You are only doing it once (before refilling) and you better hope those thrusters all work when you do it. It is truly something for elite like Jay Leno or some rich fuck to own.

>>
>>544551608
It's not supposed to be anything other than cool. Tesla is already light-years ahead of the competition when it comes to solving practical problems related to driving. You can buy one of their cars for like 20k that can be charged at home for pennies compared to buying gas, needs basically zero maintenance, and can fucking drive itself to your destination while you look at your phone. They designed this roadster just to see what would be possible in terms of engineering, and sure enough it's something that pushes the boundaries. If you want practical, go buy a Model 3. It's the most practical car ever made.

>0 to 100 in below a second is a strong selling point.
Why? Whats a reason you would ever neer to go that fast besides showing off?
But that car will never be street legal with that option anyway, that jet of air will destroy any car or person that sits behind you.

That's the point, I suppose.
That car has three expansion stages:
One aiming for surely street-legal, another for potentially street-legal and one for fun-maxing.
What you saw in the reveal show was the latter. It's a limited edition and invite-only model.

Every RED LIGHT RUNNER is the problem. Now you can just have the car Fly up and avoid getting unalived xD

Also good for getting away fast, cops cannot pull you over, they have to call AIr Control first
>>
>>544553441
The thrust itself would also probably kill anyone who happens to be nearby
>>
>>544551965
But a consumer product that uses it in a working package hasn't. Is it useful in any sort or practical way right now? No, but seeing the now proven concept in action is something interesting at least. It's just a giant gimmick now but could lead to more practical advancements that aren't simply gimmicks. Like making my nissan armada be able to do a 1 second 0-60 run. Now that's the practicality we all need!

The stats on those thrusters was also fake. They said it its about 1800kg.

Weight = mass * gravity
W = m * g
W = 1800 * 9.81
W (force in Newtons) ≈ 17658 N

So to just hover, you need >17.7 kN of downward thrust. Tesla/SpaceX are bragging about ~80 kN total from the cold‑gas thrusters - that's over 4× its own weight.

Wanna know what that actually does to a car?
Acceleration: a = (orce / mass
a = 80000 / 1800
a ≈ 44.4 m/s^2

If those thrusters were actually outputting 80kN downward thrust, after 10 seconds:

velocity = displacement (acceleration) * time (seconds)
v = a * t
v = 34.6m/s^2 * 10s = 346m/s^2

In other words after 10 seconds the car would be traveling upwards at over 1000km/h (700mph for you imperialfags)

But I guess they thought big number would fool the retards (and it worked). This is grade 12 physics by the way. They're not even putting effort into the grift.
>>
>>544557617
Dude that's been the question bouncing around in my head. Like, if you hand a set of these to some rally drivers and told them to completely send it on an extremely dangerous mountain course, could this tech make it so a racer flying off the track is no big deal?

Most innovative ideas sound retarded at first, for example normal cars, at first one could claim they are useless because horses do everything they are supposed to do and much cheaper, easier to maintain, environmentally friendly, etc. However, once the tech exists people start building on it and eventually it changes the entire trajectory of the development of society.
