We didn't want to kill them. We tried to integrate them. They have since labeled this attempt to civilize them 'genocide'.
They were tribes of stone-aged savages that posed a threat to everyone around them. In order to make life livable for all the civilized people, they absolutely had to be removed and re-educated. We tried to save them.
