>makes the 5 cent a bigger size than the 10 centi'll never get over this for as long as i liveif i had one wish to change america in any way it would be to switch the value of these 2 coins
>>544591197It’s because they didn’t want people confusing a dime with a quarter. Especially becomes relevant when you’re dealing with payphones.
>>544591197You’re welcome
>>544591197Why do we do everything ass backwards?
>>544591837>Why do we do everything ass backwards?Yea it's backwards, need to go Metric. But I do like the idea of a quarter we need to add that + a $5 coin makes sense
If you did that though it would either be marginally larger, or, so large you'd have to change the size of then quarter which would change the size of the 50 cent piece. Forget about dollar coins. You're in cartoon territory at that point
>>544591197American notes look so plain & they all look the same. Do your notes disintegrate in the wash?Ours is plastic monopoly money
>>544591197Dimes used to be made out of silver, with nickles rarely ever being made out of silver
Why aren't jews buying up all the nickels and melting them down to make dimes? You can get like 2 dimes for 5 cents
It's from back in the day when coins were precious metals and not just fiat. There is a huge difference in density between copper, silver and gold that you can feel when handling these coins. The dime was the smallest silver coin. $5 gold was about the same size but feels much heavier. We don't feel this anymore because all coins were made from slop since most of us were born. I only know the feeling due to being a collector
>>544591197They were made of different metals.Pennies from copper (small)Nickels from nickel (and copper) (bigger)Dimes from silver (very smaller)Quarters from silver (bigger stills)Dollars from silver (very big)$10 dollars from gold (smaller than a quarter)Because of the different metals the sizes dont follow a uniform size profile. We kept the differing sizes even as we changed out the metals for base metals to trick the public into not realizing theyd been robbed as >>544591353 points out correctly.
>>544591197>makes the 5 cent a bigger size than the 10 cent>i'll never get over this for as long as i live>if i had one wish to change america in any way it would be to switch the value of these 2 coinsDimes used to be made out of silver, particularly the 90% silver alloy used fir most higher value US coins. The reason the “Nickel”, ie. The coin valued at 5 cents is calked a “Nickel” is because the current version is made from an alloy that is primarily nickel, ie. 75% nickel, and 25% copper. The “nickel” as a five cent piece was introduced during the 1860s after the US Civil War ended, along with a similar nickel alloy three cent piece, apparently being lobbied for buy individuals involved in the nickel industry. The original five cent US coin was referred yo as a “Half Dime” and was made out of the same solver alloy as regular dimes, just in a smaller, thinner, lighter size. The same was true of the original three cent coin. After the introduction of the nickel five cent piece and three cent pieces, the production of silver alloy “Half Dimes” was discontinued in the early 1870s. The “Nickel” remained a nickel alloy with the exception of some wartime production, which were made from a silver copper alloy. The current dimes are actually a sandwich of nickel with a layer of copper, whereas nickels are just the nickel alloy.

they might as well just declare the penny to be the dime at this point
>>544595516US pennies are made of zinc
>>544591197the 5¢ coin was made out of nickel the dime was made out silver.wait til you see the size of an old 3¢ coin compared to a dime.and quit shitting up the board worse than it already is with your offtopic faggotry dipshit.
When the half cent was discontinued, the penny was worth about $0.39 in today's money. When all bills larger than the $100 were discontinued, the $100 was worth about $920 in today's money. Many stores no longer accept bills larger than a $20. Cash is becoming increasingly difficult to use for anything other than small transactions. In 1969 when the $100 became the largest bill, you could get a new automobile with twenty of them. Think about how difficult it would be to purchase a new automobile today with actual physical cash.
Euro coins are quite logical and old fucks still confuse them all the time.
>>544593904copper-nickel is trash. nickel means devil. they changed coins into trash material.>>544597595it pisses me off that 50cent is larger than 1euro, you cant stack them properly. this ruins it.
