How do mexicans in Los Angeles feel? It’s like you’re not even part of the country and you’re still living in mexico except it still says the United States on paper and maps

LA latinx anon here, I live in a 98% Hispanic neighborhood.

It feels fine, honestly. Yes, it basically is a little Mexico. Almost everything is in Spanish, everyone assumes you speak Spanish, and there's cultural references to Latin America everywhere, mostly Mexico. Sometimes I forget there's more demographics out there and even feel strange seeing gringos and Asians when I venture out. We live in our bubble, but it is increasing more and more with time. I really wouldn't like to see all the other groups, especially gringos, die out because they have been kind to us and provide a lot of good job opportunities. Working for a minority boss is hell. Anyway, yeah, basic stuff. The food is good, some people are good, some are bad. There is crime, but not as much as you'd imagine. It's like living in Mexico with the amenities and infrastructure of the US

Also, I realize my insight is not too interesting because there's not much to say. It's a way of living replicated across many immigrant communities in the Western world. Though I guess LA is a special case due to the sheer numbers. The main thing is that while I want to remain in my own ethnic enclave, we shouldn't allow it to become the entire city.

Visiting Texas soon. Can't wait to admire the massive tortas.

paid*
and yes, people before us did build it. But we pay our taxes too, quite a lot actually (California kek). I think there's at least some justification that we have access to them.

USAs borders crossed to Mexico, not the other way around.

It’s not just about paying; it’s about organizing, tracking deteriorating streets, funding repairs, supplying materials, and ensuring contractors honor their obligations through legal accountability.
You could pay fellow Mexicans to do all this, but corruption, gangs, and cartels take their cut, often with little fear of consequences.
Face it: you benefit from the infrastructure and institutions of the countries you migrate to while ignoring why they function better than the places you left behind.
