High intensity flashlight. The real metric you want isn't "lumens" which is bullshit, it's candela. Candela is the measure of a beam of light's intensity at a given range. You want something above 50,000 candela for a defensive flashlight. A commercial regular flashlight is only like 5k candela, for reference. The one I own is 95,000 candela. I've seen them over 120k. A flashlight at 95k candela is so intense that if I shined it in your face, from 30 feet away, in broad daylight at noon, you will be effectively blinded for the next several minutes. You will have no lasting damage, but you won't be able to see much of anything until the light receptors in your retinas regenerate, because I literally burned them out of your head with my flashlight. They'll come back, in a few minutes. By that time, I'm gone. Best part? Carrying a flashlight is not illegal, anywhere. It's not a weapon. You can take it places you can't take a weapon. It's also not illegal to shine a light in somebody's face. It's not even assault. If somebody is coming at you, take out your every day carry 50k Candela defensive light and shine it in their face until they stop. It should happen instantly. Then walk away. Pic related is one that I use. It costs about $250. But I can take it anywhere, whereas I can't take my gun or even my mace with me in certain places.
