I did!

I cherish my double gold plant.
I purchased what was supposed to be the snow bank blackberry cultivar lowes and I was a little pissed when it bore black fruit.

And Berry White invented the Love Unlimited Orchestra.

Greetings hybridizer anon.

I have the snowbank blackberries in my yard. Many of his plums too. We also have himilayan blackberry all over the place. It forms inpenetrable thickets 15 feet tall. Terrible invasive.
Boysenberry are my favorite. Not sure what he contributed to those though.

He invented so many I think he would've forgotten had he not kept journals... I wonder if Myosotis × insula should have Myosotis arnoldii and Myosotis glabrescens input too to improve form?

if /pol/ was a fruit

There seems to be a strong tendency for Rubus to produce Anthocyanins... It took more than 2000 crosses for Luther Burbank to fix whiteness into his cultivar. It could've been a true Snowbank that did revert.

No it originated from a Mutant Blackberry backcrossed with a Lawton.

I’ve been to his home/garden/museum in Santa Rosa. It was beautiful

It's sad no-one wants to hybridise in the same way anymore, except with Chili Peppers but there's always a goal in trying to get the hottest one.

He was also a freemasonic faggot who believed in blank slatism and racemixing
>>
>>544647888
The professional hybridizer wanted to race mix to breed a superior race?

I never would have guessed!!
>>
>>544647888
None of this is true.

He was a Eugenicist, basically we believe breed for as long as the product is satisfactory objectively.

I've heard or read somewhere a story that he developed a new cactus sort that could be used as cattle feed by removing a spine or spikes from the cactus..something like that. And when people tried to grow it, it grew with the spine/spikes again. When asked about what happened he supposedly said if they were trying to talk to the plants? Implying you have to communicate with them to get them to grow the way you want them to..
Anyone knows anything about this? Or anything about burbank that explains his views and these "esoteric" techniques?
>>
>>544648364
Yeah. The cactus is an opuntia. And when cactuses regrow, they always start off with spines. The spines seem to be a stress response. As the plant becomes less stressed, it drops it's spines again.

Reversion or genetic reactivation is a common state in Plants. He was frequently criticised for unorthodoxy but quite honestly his hybrids were top-notch even if his mutations would often revert.
>>
>>544648529
Plants frequently activate and deactivate their own genes which can express themselves or not in new growth, called sports in botany. I think it was the soil change that reactivated the otherwise dormant gene for spines.
>>
>>544648631
Every time I take a cutting of a cactus, the spines increase. And when it grows out, the spines decrease. It's a stress response to being cut.

That makes complete sense. This variety completely lacks glocchids too but even then might produce the odd spine, plant genetics are far more flexible in expression than us Animals.
>>
>>544648900
Never tried that due to it being a North American Endemic not widely grown here but i'll take your word for it.
