There won't be a jury full of foids for an insanity defense like Lindsay Clancy. The rules for claiming self defense vary from state to state but generally are much more robust if you're present on your own property. A few states allow shooting someone to defend property while on your own property but most do not. These other states requires your mens rea, or state of mind, to be "in fear of your life". Which means the perpetrator is armed in some way or actively breaking into your home. This applies too if you're being carjacked or being assaulted with a deadly weapon in public. Shooting someone in the back while they are fleeing is frowned upon and you should probably just bury the body and keep your mouth shut
