The federalism questions don't make any sense from the POV of the muh oil alienation types. It's the lack of federal authority over the provinces that keeps Alberta energy boxed in. Alberta should be demanding MORE federal control over commerce with something like the US commerce clause. But these are people who thinks being independent, which would make their position 10x worse still, makes any amount of sense for a potentially landlocked country dependent on international exports.
